有人樂善好施，反倒越來越富；有人一毛不拔，反而越來越窮。慷慨好施的必得昌盛，恩待他人的必蒙恩待。

從巴力·沙利沙來了一個人，他帶了二十個用初熟大麥做的餅和一些麥穗送給上帝的僕人。上帝的僕人說：「分給眾人吃吧。」僕人說：「這些怎麼夠一百人吃呢？」以利沙說：「你只管分給眾人吃。因為耶和華說，『眾人都能吃飽，並且還會剩下。』」

摩西說：「和我同行的，僅男子就有六十萬，你還說要讓他們吃整整一個月的肉！就是把牛羊都宰了，把海裡的魚都捕來，恐怕也不夠他們吃！」耶和華說：「難道我的臂膀能力不夠嗎？你很快將看見我的話會不會應驗。」

耶穌回答說：「他們不用離開，你們給他們吃的吧。」門徒答道：「我們這裡只有五個餅和兩條魚。」

耶穌說：「你們給他們吃的吧。」門徒說：「我們哪來這麼多錢買東西給他們吃啊？」耶穌說：「看看你們有多少餅。」他們察看後，說：「有五個餅和兩條魚。」

耶穌舉目看見一大群人向祂走來，就對腓力說：「我們到哪裡去買餅給他們吃呢？」祂這樣說是想試試腓力，其實祂知道應該怎麼做。腓力回答說：「就算買二百個銀幣的餅，也不夠他們每人一口啊！」另外一個門徒——西門·彼得的弟弟安得烈對耶穌說：「這裡有個小孩子帶了五個大麥餅和兩條魚。不過，這麼多人，這一點東西實在無濟於事。」
