The day began to wear away; and the twelve came and said to him,“ Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding villages and farms, and lodge, and get food, for we are here in a deserted place.”

Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said,“ Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.”

Late in the afternoon the 12 disciples came to him. They said,“ Send the crowd away. They can go to the nearby villages and countryside. There they can find food and a place to stay. There is nothing here.”

Now the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him,“ Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.”

Late in the afternoon the twelve disciples came to him and said,“ Send the crowds away to the nearby villages and farms, so they can find food and lodging for the night. There is nothing to eat here in this remote place.”

Now the day was ending, and the twelve came up and said to Him,“ Dismiss the crowd, so that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside and find lodging and get something to eat; because here, we are in a secluded place.”

When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him,“ Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted place here.”

And the day began to wear away; and the twelve came, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages and country round about, and lodge, and get provisions: for we are here in a desert place.

And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place.

Now the day began to draw to a close, so the twelve came and said to Jesus,“ Send the crowd away, so they can go into the surrounding villages and countryside and find lodging and food, because we are in an isolated place.”

But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying,“ Send her away; for she cries after us.”

Yes, they spoke against God. They said,“ Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?”

When it was late in the day, his disciples came to him, and said,“ This place is deserted, and it is late in the day.Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages, and buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat.”But he answered them,“ You give them something to eat.” They asked him,“ Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give them something to eat?”He said to them,“ How many loaves do you have? Go see.” When they knew, they said,“ Five, and two fish.”He commanded them that everyone should sit down in groups on the green grass.They sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves, and he gave to his disciples to set before them, and he divided the two fish among them all.They all ate, and were filled.They took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and also of the fish.Those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.

When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying,“ This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”But Jesus said to them,“ They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”They told him,“ We only have here five loaves and two fish.”He said,“ Bring them here to me.”He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the multitudes.They all ate, and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.Those who ate were about five thousand men, in addition to women and children.

Jesus summoned his disciples and said,“ I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way.”

Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip,“ Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?”He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.Philip answered him,“ Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may receive a little.”One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,“ There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?”Jesus said,“ Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.When they were filled, he said to his disciples,“ Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.”So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said,“ This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.”Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.

I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

“‘ I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause evil animals to cease out of the land. They will dwell securely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.
