眾人哭女甚哀；耶穌曰：『勿哭！女實未死、寢耳。』

Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her.“ Stop wailing,” Jesus said.“ She is not dead but asleep.”

During this time, all the people were crying and sobbing loudly over the child.“ Stop crying!” Jesus said.“ She is not dead. She is sleeping.”

And all were weeping and mourning for her, but he said,“ Do not weep, for she is not dead but sleeping.”

The house was filled with people weeping and wailing, but he said,“ Stop the weeping! She isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.”

有一大群人跟在耶穌後面，其中有不少婦女為耶穌傷心痛哭。

耶穌聽見後，說：「這病不會致命，而是為了上帝的榮耀，使祂的兒子藉此得到榮耀。」

以掃聽了放聲痛哭，說：「父親啊，求你也為我祝福！」以撒說：「你弟弟已經用詭計把你的福分奪去了。」

王聽了十分難過，就走上城門樓去痛哭，邊走邊說：「我兒押沙龍啊！我兒，我兒押沙龍啊！我恨不得可以替你死！押沙龍，我兒啊！我兒！」

萬軍之耶和華說：「把陪哭的婦人請來，把最會哭的婦人帶來，叫她們速來為我的子民哀哭，哭得他們淚盈滿眶，哭得他們淚如泉湧。因為從錫安傳出哀鳴，『我們滅亡了！我們受了奇恥大辱！我們的家園被毀，我們只好背井離鄉。』」婦人啊，你們要聽耶和華的話，接受祂的教誨；你們要教導女兒哀哭，教導鄰居唱輓歌。因為死亡從窗戶爬進我們的城堡，吞滅街上的孩童和廣場上的青年。

在以色列人眼中，耶和華的榮耀在山上好像烈火。

在迦南境內的基列·亞巴，即希伯崙去世。亞伯拉罕在那裡痛哭，哀悼她。

「我必將施恩和禱告的靈澆灌在大衛家和耶路撒冷的居民身上。他們必仰望我——他們所刺的那位，如喪獨子一般為祂哀傷，如喪長子一般為祂痛哭。

他們到了那裡，只見在場的人嚎啕大哭，場面混亂。耶穌進去問道：「你們為什麼大哭大嚷呢？這孩子並沒有死，只是睡著了。」

『我們吹娶親的樂曲，你們不跳舞；我們唱送葬的哀歌，你們不悲傷。』

接著耶穌又說：「我們的朋友拉撒路已經睡了，我去叫醒他。」門徒說：「主啊，如果他睡了，肯定會好的。」其實耶穌是指他已經死了，門徒卻以為他真的睡了。
