As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let[ her] drive.And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next[ day] they lightened the ship;And the third[ day] we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on[ us], all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.The LORD on high[ is] mightier than the noise of many waters,[ yea, than] the mighty waves of the sea.

Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.

If[ it had not been] the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest,[ and] not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old.[ Art] thou not it that hath cut Rahab,[ and] wounded the dragon?[ Art] thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?

They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word:

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as[ we are, yet] without sin.
