耶稣上了船，他的门徒们跟着他。这时候，忽然湖上起了大风暴，以致波浪盖过了船，耶稣却睡着了。门徒们上前来叫醒他，说：“主啊，救救我们，我们没命了！”耶稣对他们说：“为什么胆怯呢？你们这些小信的人哪！”耶稣就起来，斥责风和浪，湖面就变得一片平静。他们都感到惊奇，说：“这个人究竟是什么人？连风和浪也听从他！”

那天晚上，耶稣对门徒们说：“我们渡到对岸去吧。”门徒离开众人，耶稣仍然在船上，他们就把他一同带去；也有别的船与他同行。这时候，起了大风暴，以致波浪打进船里，船几乎灌满了水。耶稣却在船尾靠着枕头睡着了。门徒们叫醒他，说：“老师！我们没命了，你不管吗？”耶稣就起来，斥责了风，对浪说：“不许做声！平静下来！”于是风就停了，湖面就变得一片平静。耶稣对门徒们说：“为什么胆怯呢？你们还没有信吗？”门徒们就大为惊恐，彼此说：“这个人究竟是谁？连风和浪也听从他！”

这些事以后，耶稣渡过加利利湖，也就是太巴列湖，到对岸去。

于是他就离开他们，又上船往对岸去。

有一次，当人群拥挤着耶稣，听神的话语的时候，他正站在革尼撒勒湖边。

耶稣随即催促他的门徒们上船，要他们先往对岸的伯赛达去；这期间，他自己遣散了人群。

船行的时候，耶稣睡着了。这时候，暴风降临到湖上，他们不断地被水浸灌，情况危险。

耶稣看见一群人围着他，就吩咐渡到对岸去。
