現今世富足的人呢、你要囑咐他們別存着高傲的心，不要把盼望釘住於財富之無定上，卻要釘住於那將萬物豐豐富富供給我們享受、的上帝；

但那些定意要致富的人就陷落試誘和網羅、跟許多無知而有害的私慾、令人沉沒於敗壞和滅亡中的私慾。因為貪財即是萬惡之根；有人一心要貪財，就受迷離背了信仰，拿許多傷痛刺透了自己。

而今世的掛慮、財富的娛樂、和一些其他事物的私慾、走進來，把道悶煞，他便不能結實。

另有別的落在荊棘中；荊棘一同長起來，把它悶住了。

『一個人不能做兩個主人的奴僕；因為他若不是厭惡這一個而愛那一個，就是會依附這一個而不顧那一個：你們不能又做上帝的奴僕，又做錢財的奴僕。故此我告訴你們，不要為你們的性命來掛慮、要喫甚麼、或喝甚麼；也不要為你們的身體來掛慮、要穿甚麼。性命不是勝於食物，而身體勝於服裝麼？

那撒到荊棘裏的，是人聽了道，而今世的掛慮和財富的娛樂把道悶煞了，他便不能結實。

在挪亞的日子怎樣，在人子的日子也必怎樣；人喫喝嫁娶，直到挪亞進樓船那一天，洪水一來，把他們都滅了。又好像在羅得的日子一樣；人喫喝買賣，栽種建造；但羅得從所多瑪出來那一天，上帝從天上下火雨跟硫磺雨，把他們都滅了。在人子顯示出來的日子也必如此。

於是耶穌講這個比喻說：『有一個人有一棵無花果樹栽在他的葡萄園裏；他來，在樹上找果子，卻找不着。就對葡萄園工說：「你看，我來、在這無花果樹上找果子、卻找不着，已經三年了。把它砍了吧；何必讓它白佔地土呢？」園工回答他說：「主人啊，這一年也容它吧；等我在它周圍挖掘，撒上糞。將來若結果子便罷；如果不然，你才把它砍掉。」』

『你們要自己注意，恐怕你們的心受重壓在過度飲食醉酒和日常生活之掛慮中，那日子就如同網羅突然臨到你們了；

耶穌看他，就說：『有錢財的人進上帝的國、何等的難哪！駱駝穿進針眼，比有錢的進上帝的國還容易呢！』

一個家僕不能做兩個主人的僕人，因為他不是會厭惡這一個而愛那一個，就是會依附這一個而不顧那一個。你們不能又做上帝的僕人，又做錢財的僕人。』

人若不住在我裏面，便像枝子扔在外面、枯乾了；人收集起來，扔在火裏，就燒掉了。
