She has done a good deed for Me.For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me.She has done what she could; she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial.Truly I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the entire world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.”

But they were saying,“ Not during the festival, otherwise a riot might occur among the people.”Now when Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the Leper,

It happened that when He went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching Him closely.

And it was the Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.So the sisters sent word to Him, saying,“ Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”But when Jesus heard this, He said,“ This sickness is not meant for death, but is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.”( Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister, and Lazarus.)So when He heard that he was sick, He then stayed two days longer in the place where He was.Then after this He* said to the disciples,“ Let’s go to Judea again.”The disciples* said to Him,“ Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone You, and yet You are going there again?”Jesus replied,“ Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks during the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.But if anyone walks during the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”This He said, and after this He* said to them,“ Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going so that I may awaken him from sleep.”The disciples then said to Him,“ Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will come out of it.”Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about actual sleep.So Jesus then said to them plainly,“ Lazarus died,and I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe; but let’s go to him.”Therefore Thomas, who was called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples,“ Let’s also go, so that we may die with Him!”

The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say,‘ Behold, a gluttonous man and a heavy drinker, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’

Now when He had spoken, a Pharisee* asked Him to have lunch with him; and He went in and reclined at the table.
