( All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.

All the people who heard Jesus’ words agreed that God’s way was right. Even the tax collectors agreed. These people had all been baptized by John.

稅吏至、欲受洗、問曰、先生、我當何為、

惟智者為能明智者之義也、○

咏上帝僕摩西詩、以及羔詩云、全能之主上帝歟、功奇而偉、聖徒之王歟、道公而正、

曰、非也、上帝真、億兆偽、如經云、主言時稱義、鞫時獲勝、我今所言者、藉人言耳、曰、我不義、益彰上帝之義、吾何以稱之哉、如是而上帝施刑、豈義乎、曰、非也、若然、則上帝焉能鞫世人耶、

此人學主道、以主之事、銳志訓人、備極精詳、惟知約翰施洗而已、

我蹈愆尤、獲罪於爾、即責予、爾亦稱義、即鞫予、爾亦為善兮。

曰然則爾受誰之洗、曰、約翰、

爾意何如、二者、孰遵父旨乎、曰、長子、耶穌曰、我誠告爾、稅吏娼妓、先爾入上帝國矣、蓋約翰以道義就爾、爾不信、而稅吏娼妓信之、且爾見此、又不後悔以信之、○

我聞掌水天使云、自昔及今之聖主、鞫人如是、無非大公、

其不識上帝稱義之道、惟一已行義是賴、不服上帝稱義之道、

斯時耶路撒冷、猶太、及約但四方咸出、各言已罪、在約但受洗於約翰、

亞多尼庇泄曰、昔我斷七十王手足之巨擘、使拾物於我几下、今上帝視我所行、報施於我。猶大族乃攜之至耶路撒冷、死焉。○
