眾民和收稅人因受過約翰的洗、聽見了這話、就承認上帝為義。

( All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.

All the people who heard Jesus’ words agreed that God’s way was right. Even the tax collectors agreed. These people had all been baptized by John.

收稅人也來、要受洗，問他說：『先生，我們要作甚麼？』

但智慧總是從她所有的兒女得證為對的。』

他們直唱着上帝僕人摩西的歌和羔羊的歌，說：『主上帝，全能者啊，你的作為大哉！奇哉！萬世之王啊，你的道路公義啊！真實啊！

斷乎不能；上帝總是真誠的，雖則人人都撒謊；正如經上所記：『以致你在你的判語上總得證為對，你在被論斷時總必得勝。』但是我們的不義倘若證明上帝的義來，那要怎麼講呢？難道說上帝顯義怒是不義麼？（我且照人的講法說話吧）。斷乎不是；如果這樣，上帝怎能審判世界呢？

這個人曾經在主的道路上受訓練，他心靈火熱，將關於耶穌的事詳確地講論、教訓人，卻單單曉得約翰的洗禮。

我犯罪得罪的乃是你，就只是你，是在你眼前行了這壞事，以致你下判語時顯為公義，你判罰時顯為清正。

保羅說：『那麼你們受了洗歸於甚麼呢？』他們說：『歸受了約翰的洗禮。』

這兩人中，誰實行了那父親的意旨呢？他們說：『那後者。』耶穌對他們說：「我實在告訴你們，收稅的人和妓女比你們先進上帝的國呢！因為約翰引着義路到你們這裏來，你們不信他；收稅人和妓女倒信他。你們看了之後，還是沒有後悔而去信他。

我聽見掌管眾水的天使說：『今在昔在的聖義者，你這樣判罰是公義的：

因為他們不明白上帝救人之義，只求立自己的義，就不順服於上帝救人之義了。

那時耶路撒冷和全猶太、跟約但河全周圍地區的人、連續地出去到約翰那裏，承認他們的罪，在約但河裏受約翰的洗。

亞多尼比色說：『從前有七十個王、手腳的大拇指都被我砍斷、常在我桌子底下撿食物；我怎樣行，上帝怎樣報應我了。』他們將亞多尼比色帶到耶路撒冷；他就死在那裏。
