( All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.

All the people who heard Jesus’ words agreed that God’s way was right. Even the tax collectors agreed. These people had all been baptized by John.

稅吏亦至、欲領洗、問曰、師、我當何為、

惟有道者、皆以道為是、或作惟上智之子必以上智為是○

謳天主僕摩西之歌及羔之歌、云、全能之主天主歟、爾之所為、大哉奇哉、諸聖之王歟、爾之道至公至真、

非也、當言天主為真、世人皆偽、如經載云、在爾言時得稱義、在爾被審時獲勝、我今且按人言言之曰、若我儕之不義、顯彰天主之義、則何言哉、天主施刑、可謂其不義乎、非也、若然、則天主焉能審判世界乎、

此人曾學主道、心熱志銳、以主之事詳細辯論而訓人、但知約翰之洗禮而已、

我惟得罪於主、在主之前行惡、主譴責我乃合理、審鞫我乃公義、

曰、然則爾受何洗禮、答曰、約翰之洗禮、

此二者、誰遵父之旨、對曰、長子、耶穌曰、我誠告爾、稅吏與妓女必先爾入天主之國、蓋約翰以義道就爾、爾不信之、而稅吏與妓女信之、且爾見此、仍不悔改以信、○

我聞司水天使曰、今在昔在之聖主、如是審判乃公義矣、

蓋彼不識天主之義、而欲立己之義、故未服天主之義、

斯時耶路撒冷、猶太徧境、及約但一帶之人、咸出就之、各認己罪、在約但受洗於約翰、

亞多尼比色曰、昔有七十王、手足大指、為我所斷、原文作昔有七十王斷手足大指者拾食物於我案下、今天主循我所行、報施於我、乃攜至耶路撒冷而死於彼、
