And all the people when they heard, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

( All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.

All the people who heard Jesus’ words agreed that God’s way was right. Even the tax collectors agreed. These people had all been baptized by John.

( When all the people heard this, and the tax collectors too, they declared God just, having been baptized with the baptism of John,

And there came also publicans to be baptized, and they said unto him, Teacher, what must we do?

And wisdom is justified of all her children.

And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, O Lord God, the Almighty; righteous and true are thy ways, thou King of the ages.

God forbid: yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy words, And mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment.But if our unrighteousness commendeth the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who visiteth with wrath?( I speak after the manner of men.)God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?

This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spake and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John:

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, And done that which is evil in thy sight; That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest, And be clear when thou judgest.

And he said, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into John’s baptism.

Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.

And I heard the angel of the waters saying, Righteous art thou, who art and who wast, thou Holy One, because thou didst thus judge:

For being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judæa, and all the region round about the Jordan;and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

And Adoni- bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their food under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
