“我确实地告诉你们：在女人所生的人中，没有出现过一个比施洗者约翰更大的；然而在天国里，再小的也比约翰更大。

耶稣转过身来，悄悄地对门徒们说：“看见你们所看见的，那眼睛是蒙福的！我告诉你们：曾经有许多先知和君王想要看你们所看见的，却没有看到；想要听你们所听见的，却没有听到。”

“但你们的眼睛是蒙福的，因为看见了；你们的耳朵是蒙福的，因为听见了。我确实地告诉你们：曾经有许多先知和义人渴望看你们所看见的，却没有看到；渴望听你们所听见的，却没有听到。

神为了你们的缘故赐给了我任务，我按照这任务成为教会的仆人，为要使神的话语完全传开。这话语就是历世历代被隐藏的奥秘，但如今已经显明给他的圣徒们。神愿意在外邦人中，让他们明白什么是这奥秘的荣耀的丰盛；那就是：基督在你们里面，他是荣耀的盼望！

我在所有圣徒中，比最小的还小，但被赐予了这恩典，是为了把基督那无法测度的丰盛传给外邦人；并且使所有的人都明白这奥秘的计划到底是什么，这奥秘自古以来被隐藏在创造万有的神里面，

约翰就回答大家，说：“我用水给你们施洗，但有一位比我更强有力的要来，我就是为他解鞋带也不配。他要用圣灵和火给你们施洗。

关于这救恩，那些预言你们要得着这恩典的先知，曾经寻求过，详细查考过。他们查考了自己里面基督之灵，当他预言有关基督的苦难和此后的荣耀时，究竟指明的是什么时候、或什么样的情况。他们蒙了启示，知道所服事的这一切，不是为自己，而是为你们。如今，这些事藉着从天上派来的圣灵，通过那些向你们传福音的人，传讲给了你们；对于这些事，天使们也渴望能详细察看。

然后对他们说：“无论谁奉我的名接受这小孩子，就是接受我；接受我的，就是接受差派我来的那一位。要知道，在你们当中谁更小，他才为大。”

他将使你欢喜、快乐，许多人也会因他的诞生而欢欣，因为他将要在主面前为大。淡酒和烈酒他绝不能喝，还在母腹中的时候，他就会被圣灵充满。

这些人虽然都藉着信受到了赞许，还是没有领受到所应许的，因为神为我们预备了更美好的事，使他们没有我们，就不能得以完全。
