我实在告诉你们，凡妇人所生的，没有一个兴起来比施洗者约翰大，然而天国里最微不足道的也比他大。

随后，耶稣转身悄悄地对门徒说：“谁看到你们今日所看到的，谁就有福了。我告诉你们，以前有许多先知和君王渴望看见你们所看见的，听见你们所听见的，却未能如愿。”

“但你们的眼睛是有福的，因为看得见；你们的耳朵也是有福的，因为听得见。我实在告诉你们，以前有许多先知和义人曾渴望看见你们所看见的，听见你们所听见的，却未能如愿。

我受上帝的委派成为教会的仆人，要把上帝的道完整地传给你们。这道是历世历代一直隐藏的奥秘，现在已经向祂的众圣徒显明了。上帝要他们知道这奥秘在外族人中有何等丰富的荣耀，这奥秘就是基督在你们里面，使你们有荣耀的盼望。

我本来比最卑微的圣徒还卑微，却蒙上帝赐我这恩典，让我把基督那测不透的丰富传给外族人，让全人类都明白世代隐藏在创造万物的上帝里面的奥秘，

约翰对众人说：“我是用水给你们施洗，但有一位能力比我更大的快来了，我就是给祂解鞋带也不配。祂要用圣灵和火给你们施洗。

有关这救恩，那些预言恩典要临到你们的众先知早已详细寻求查考了。基督的灵曾在他们心中指示他们，预言基督要受苦，然后得荣耀。他们便详细查考这些事会在什么时候、什么情况下发生。他们得到启示，知道他们传讲这些事不是为了自己，而是为了你们。现在，那些靠着从天上差来的圣灵向你们传福音的人，已经将这些事传给你们了。连天使也想把这些事看个明白。

然后对门徒说：“任何人为了我的缘故接待这样一个小孩子，就是接待我；接待我，就是接待差我来的那位。你们当中最卑微的其实是最伟大的。”

你必欢喜快乐，许多人也会因为他的诞生而欣喜雀跃，因为他将成为主伟大的仆人。他必滴酒不沾，并且在母腹里就被圣灵充满。

这些人都因信心而获得赞许，但他们并未得到上帝的应许，因为上帝为我们预备了更美的，要叫他们与我们一同得到才算完美。
