然而，那聽見而不實行的人，就好比一個人把房子建在地面上，沒有根基。急流一沖，立刻倒塌了，並且那房子毀壞得非常厲害。」

惟聞而不行者、似人建屋土上、而無基、河流衝之則傾、其屋之頹壞大矣、

惟聞而不行者、譬諸無基、而建屋土上、橫流衝之、遂以傾圮、而屋之頹壞者大也、

惟聞而不行者、譬人未置基而建屋於土上、橫流衝之即傾頹、而屋之頹壞者大矣、

But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

『昔有播種者、出而播種；種有落道旁者、行人踐之、飛鳥啄之；有落磽确者、以地無澤潤、旋茁旋槁；有落荊棘中者、荊棘叢生、卒被掩蔽；

因此吾迫不及待、儘先遣人探訪、藉欲知爾信德、深恐誘人之物乘間誘爾、則我等之所為孳孳不倦者、盡付東流矣。

此輩雖自吾儕中出、然自始非吾道中人；若真屬吾道中人、則應始終與吾儕相偕；今若輩半途而廢、與我分道、則其本非吾道中人、彰彰明矣。

惟其內無根、蓬勃一時、不能持之以恆、一旦為道之故、而遭遇艱難困厄、則頹然而廢矣；

因是望爾等發憤自勉、精益求精；既有信心、加以德行；既有德行、加以明達；既有明達、加以克治；既能克治；加以堅忍；既有堅忍、加以虔誠；既有虔誠、加以友愛；既有友愛、冠之以仁。爾等苟能存養此等美德、使之發榮滋長於爾內心、則體認吾主耶穌基督、自覺日益親切、欲罷不能、必不致華而不實也。凡不具此等美德者、無異短視淺識之心盲、而自忘其舊罪已蒙滌除矣。

邪魔離人、徘徊於無水之地、欲覓一安身之所而不可得則曰：「我將返我故宅。」比至、見其室空空、掃除整潔、粉飾煥然；乃往召較己尤惡七鬼同來居寓；其人之後患、必有甚焉者也。斯邪惡世代、亦復如是。』

對曰：「不願。」既而悔之、乃往。諭次子亦往、次子曰：「大人、我往。」然竟未往也。

至我諸仇、不願予為其王者、曳來誅于吾前。」』

夫吾人既認識真道、如再明知故犯、則不復有贖罪之祭、而其所餘者、惟觳觫待刑、以候吞滅悖逆之燎火而已。昔人干犯摩西律法、根據二三人之證言、尚且殺之無貸；何況蹂躪天主聖子、輕慢聖德所本之盟血、褻瀆恩寵所自之聖神、爾謂其所當受之刑罰、更堪設想乎！

其國人素惡之、至是乃遣使追告、聲言不願其為王。

其播於磽地者、乃聞道即欣然受之、第內無根核、末能有恆、及因道而遇困厄、則頹然而廢矣。其播於棘中者、聞道之後、世慮縈懷、利慾熏心、遂壅塞其道、乃至無實。

邪魔既離人身、徘徊於無水之地、欲求安身之所而不可得、乃曰：「吾將返吾故宅。」既至、則見掃除整潔、粉飾煥然；乃引更惡之七鬼以至、相與入而居之。其人之後患、必有甚焉者也。』

爾等固應遵其所言、惟不可效其所行；蓋若輩有言而無行也。

是知徒信而無行、則其信、必索然而無生氣也。人將謂爾曰：『爾有信、我有行；惟爾示我以無行之信、而我將示爾以行、用徵吾信。爾信天主惟一、斯誠善矣，獨不知眾魔亦具此信、且因是而震慄焉。』嗚呼、爾亦淺人也已！爾亦知無行之信、乃為空虛無實乎？昔亞伯漢曾毅然以其子伊灑格獻於祭壇之上矣。彼非以行而取義耶？可見其行固有恃乎其信、為之推動、而其信亦有待乎其行、為之玉成也。於是古經所載亞伯漢因信天主而成聖、且稱為「天主之友」云者、乃獲當然之補充、而厥義大備矣。可見人之稱義、以其所行、而不僅憑其所信而已。再如花娘拉哈收留使者、示以改道而歸；寧非以行見義乎？信而無行、猶身之無魂、亦惟死而已矣。

夫既因認識吾主耶穌基督、而脫濁世之習氣、今復重入羅網、從此休矣！且其晚節必有較前更醜者焉。

予實語爾、他日、索多瑪之刑較斯邑猶易受也。哀哉哥絡潯！哀哉珀璾達！假令爾中所顯靈異、顯於諦羅西同、則早已披麻坐灰、幡然悔悟矣。故審判時、諦羅西同之刑較爾猶易受也。鳴呼葛法農！爾欲被陟而登青雲乎？爾必被降而入幽獄也！人能聽爾、是即聽予；人若拒爾、是即拒予；拒予、亦即拒遣予者也。』

僕若明知主人之意、而猶不朝乾夕惕、奉行厥旨、則受撻必多；

然道貴實踐、聞而不行、自欺而已。若是之人、猶如以鑑自照、暫見其容、而轉身即自忘其形容之彷彿。若能以自由之妙法為鑑、凝神諦觀、念茲在茲、不惟聞道、且復實事求是、身體而力行之；則此人所行、必蒙見祐、無往而不樂矣。若有人自以為虔誠、而不能自制其舌、是為欺心之人、其虔誠偽也。

且屢於會堂中加以楚撻、意欲迫其發褻瀆之語；恨之既甚、逐之外邑。

吾知吾去之後、將有貪狠之狼、來入爾中、摧殘羊群；

枝之在我、而不結實者、彼則截之；其結實者、彼則裁之、使結實彌茂。

爾既尊吾為主、顧又不踐吾訓何也？

其半途而廢者、亦必甚眾；且將互相陷害、互相嫉恨。
