Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab,“ As certainly as the LORD God of Israel lives( whom I serve), there will be no dew or rain in the years ahead unless I give the command.”

Some time later, in the third year of the famine, the LORD told Elijah,“ Go, make an appearance before Ahab, so I may send rain on the surface of the ground.”So Elijah went to make an appearance before Ahab. Now the famine was severe in Samaria.

Am I not permitted to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’

On that same occasion Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said,“ I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your gracious will.

“ Indeed, my plans are not like your plans, and my deeds are not like your deeds,

The woman was a Greek, of Syrophoenician origin. She asked him to cast the demon out of her daughter.He said to her,“ Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and to throw it to the dogs.”She answered,“ Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”Then he said to her,“ Because you said this, you may go. The demon has left your daughter.”

He did this when he revealed to us the secret of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ,

For he says to Moses:“ I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

In Christ we too have been claimed as God’s own possession, since we were predestined according to the one purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to the counsel of his will

But who indeed are you– a mere human being– to talk back to God? Does what is molded say to the molder,“ Why have you made me like this?”
