He went into all the countryside around the Jordan River. There he preached that people should be baptized and turn away from their sins. Then God would forgive them.

People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan.Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Paul said,“ John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”

And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’

Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel.
