过了安息日，在一周的头一天，黎明的时候，茉大拉的玛丽亚和另一个玛丽亚来看坟墓。忽然发生了强烈的地震，主的一位天使从天上降下来，上前把那石头滚开，坐在上面。他的容貌像闪电，衣服洁白如雪。看守的卫兵们因怕天使就浑身发抖，变得像死人那样。天使对妇女们说：“你们不要怕！我知道你们是在寻找被钉十字架的耶稣。他不在这里，因为他已经复活了，正如他所说过的。你们来看安放他的地方。赶快去告诉他的门徒们：‘他从死人中复活了。看哪，他要在你们之前到加利利去。在那里，你们将见到他。’看哪，我已经告诉你们了！”她们立即离开墓穴，又惧怕，又大大欢喜，跑去告诉耶稣的门徒们。

还有一些从邪灵和疾病中被解脱出来、得了痊愈的妇女，其中有那称为茉大拉的玛丽亚，从她身上曾经有七个鬼魔被赶出来，又有希律的管家苦撒的妻子约亚娜，以及苏珊娜和许多别的妇女，她们都用自己所拥有的来服事耶稣和门徒们。

那里有许多妇女从远处观看，她们从加利利开始就跟随耶稣，服事他。其中有茉大拉的玛丽亚、雅各和约西的母亲玛丽亚，以及西庇太儿子们的母亲。

安息日一过，茉大拉的玛丽亚、雅各的母亲玛丽亚和莎罗美就买了香料，要去膏抹耶稣。在一周的头一天，一大清早，太阳刚出来，她们就来到墓穴那里。她们互相说：“谁能替我们滚开墓穴口的石头呢？”原来那块石头非常大。可是她们抬头一看，见石头已经被滚开了。她们进了墓穴，看见一个年轻人身穿白袍坐在右边，就大吃一惊。那年轻人对她们说：“不要惊慌！你们是在寻找被钉十字架的拿撒勒人耶稣，他已经复活了，不在这里。看，这就是他们安放他的地方。你们去，告诉他的门徒们和彼得：‘他要在你们之前到加利利去。在那里，你们将见到他，正如他告诉过你们的。’”她们浑身颤抖、惊慌失措，从墓穴出来就逃跑了。她们因为感到惧怕，什么也没有对任何人说。
