「我必把恩惠和懇求的靈傾注於大衛家和耶路撒冷的居民。他們將仰望我，就是他們所刺的那一位。他們將為他哀哭，哀號如喪獨生子；他們將為他悲痛，悲痛如喪長子。

耶穌說這話是指自己將要怎樣死。眾人回答他：「我們從律法中聽到，基督是永遠長存的。你怎麼說『人子必須被舉起來』呢？這『人子』到底是誰？」

這一位照著神設定的計劃和先見被交出去；你們就藉著外邦人的手，把他釘上十字架殺了。

「你們知道，過兩天就是逾越節，人子要被交出去釘上十字架。」

群狗圍繞我，一夥惡黨包圍我，他們刺穿我的雙手、我的雙腳；

當他們做完了經上所記載的一切有關耶穌的事，有些人就把他從木頭上取下來，安放在墓穴裡。

基督替我們成了詛咒，從律法的詛咒中救贖了我們，因為經上記著：「凡是被掛在木頭上的，都是被詛咒的。」

所以耶穌為了藉著自己的血使子民分別為聖，也在城門外受難。因此，讓我們到營地外面他那裡去，擔當他所受的責罵。

他在木頭上，以自己的身體親自擔當了我們的罪孽，好使我們既然向罪而死，就能向義而活；因他受的鞭傷，你們得了痊癒。

說：「看，我們現在上耶路撒冷去，人子將被出賣給祭司長們和經文士們。他們要定他死罪，並且要把他交給外邦人。他們要戲弄他、向他吐唾沫、鞭打他，並殺害他；然後在第三天，他要復活。」

摩西在曠野怎樣把銅蛇舉起，人子也必須照樣被舉起來，

你們掛在木頭上殺害的耶穌，我們祖先的神已經使他復活了。

這是為要應驗耶穌說過的話，就是他指明自己將要怎樣死的那些話。

並且要把他交給外邦人去戲弄、鞭打、釘上十字架；然後在第三天，他要復活。」
