他說這話，是指著自己將要怎樣死說的。於是群眾對他說：“我們從律法上知道基督是永遠常存的，你怎麼說‘人子必須被舉起來’呢？這人子是誰呢？”

他照著神的定旨和預知被交了出去，你們就藉不法之徒的手，把他釘死了。

“你們知道兩天之後就是逾越節，人子將要被交給人，釘在十字架上。”

犬類圍著我，惡黨環繞我，他們扎了（按照《馬索拉文本》，“他們扎了”作“像獅子”；現參照《七十士譯本》等古譯本翻譯）我的手我的腳。

他們把所記載一切關於他的事作成了，就把他從木頭上取下來，放在墳墓裡。

基督替我們受了咒詛，就救贖我們脫離了律法的咒詛，因為經上記著：“凡掛在木頭上的，都是受咒詛的。”

所以耶穌也是這樣在城門外受苦，為的是要藉著自己的血使人民成聖。那麼，讓我們也出到營外到他那裡去，擔當他的凌辱。

他在木頭上親身擔當了我們的罪，使我們既然不活在罪中，就可以為義而活。因他受的鞭傷，你們就得了醫治。

說：“我們現在上耶路撒冷去，人子要被交給祭司長和經學家，他們要定他的罪，並且把他交給外族人。他們要凌辱他，向他吐唾沫，鞭打他，殺害他，三天以後，他要復活。”

他的屍體不可留在樹上過夜，必須在當日把他埋葬，因為被掛在木頭上的，是受神咒詛的；這樣，你就不至於玷污耶和華你的神賜給你作產業的地了。”

摩西在曠野怎樣把銅蛇舉起，人子也必照樣被舉起來，

你們掛在木頭上親手殺害的耶穌，我們祖先的神已經使他復活了。

這就應驗了耶穌預先說到自己將要怎樣死的那句話。
