他说这话，是指着自己将要怎样死说的。于是群众对他说：“我们从律法上知道基督是永远常存的，你怎么说‘人子必须被举起来’呢？这人子是谁呢？”

他照着神的定旨和预知被交了出去，你们就藉不法之徒的手，把他钉死了。

“你们知道两天之后就是逾越节，人子将要被交给人，钉在十字架上。”

犬类围着我，恶党环绕我，他们扎了（按照《马索拉文本》，“他们扎了”作“像狮子”；现参照《七十士译本》等古译本翻译）我的手我的脚。

他们把所记载一切关于他的事作成了，就把他从木头上取下来，放在坟墓里。

基督替我们受了咒诅，就救赎我们脱离了律法的咒诅，因为经上记着：“凡挂在木头上的，都是受咒诅的。”

所以耶稣也是这样在城门外受苦，为的是要藉着自己的血使人民成圣。那么，让我们也出到营外到他那里去，担当他的凌辱。

他在木头上亲身担当了我们的罪，使我们既然不活在罪中，就可以为义而活。因他受的鞭伤，你们就得了医治。

说：“我们现在上耶路撒冷去，人子要被交给祭司长和经学家，他们要定他的罪，并且把他交给外族人。他们要凌辱他，向他吐唾沫，鞭打他，杀害他，三天以后，他要复活。”

他的尸体不可留在树上过夜，必须在当日把他埋葬，因为被挂在木头上的，是受神咒诅的；这样，你就不至于玷污耶和华你的神赐给你作产业的地了。”

摩西在旷野怎样把铜蛇举起，人子也必照样被举起来，

你们挂在木头上亲手杀害的耶稣，我们祖先的神已经使他复活了。

这就应验了耶稣预先说到自己将要怎样死的那句话。
