耶穌這句話指的是祂會怎樣死。眾人問：「我們從律法書上知道，基督是永遠長存的，你怎麼說『人子要被舉起來』呢？這人子是誰呢？」

上帝照著自己的計劃和預知把耶穌交在你們手裡，你們藉著邪惡之人的手把祂釘死在十字架上了。

「你們知道，兩天後就是逾越節，到時人子會被出賣，被釘在十字架上。」

惡人包圍我，猶如一群惡犬，他們刺傷我的手腳。

祂受死的記載全部應驗之後，有人把祂從十字架上取下來，安放在石墓裡。

但基督替我們受了咒詛，從而救贖我們脫離了律法的咒詛，因為聖經上說：「凡掛在木頭上的人都是受咒詛的。」

同樣，耶穌也在城門外受難，為要用自己的血使祂的子民聖潔。因此，讓我們也走出營外到祂那裡，忍受祂所忍受的凌辱吧！

祂被釘在十字架上，親身擔當了我們的罪，使我們向著罪死了，可以過公義的生活。因祂所受的鞭傷，你們得到了醫治。

「聽著，我們現在前往耶路撒冷。人子將被交在祭司長和律法教師的手中，他們要判祂死刑，把祂交給外族人。他們會嘲弄祂，向祂吐唾沫，鞭打祂，殺害祂。但是，三天之後祂必復活！」

不可讓屍體在木頭上過夜，必須當天埋葬，因為凡掛在木頭上的人都是上帝所咒詛的。你們不可玷污你們的上帝耶和華將要賜給你們的土地。

摩西在曠野怎樣舉起銅蛇，人子也必照樣被舉起來，

你們釘死在十字架上的耶穌，我們祖先的上帝已經使祂復活了。

這是要應驗耶穌預言自己會怎樣死的話。
