And they began to bring charges against Him, saying,“ We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

And they began to accuse him, saying,“ We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”

They began to bring charges against Jesus. They said,“ We have found this man misleading our people. He is against paying taxes to Caesar. And he claims to be Messiah, a king.”

And they began to accuse him, saying,“ We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”

They began to state their case:“ This man has been leading our people astray by telling them not to pay their taxes to the Roman government and by claiming he is the Messiah, a king.”

They began to accuse him, saying,“ We found this man misleading our nation, opposing payment of taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is the Messiah, a king.”

And they began to accuse Him, saying,“ We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cæsar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.

As a result of this, Pilate made efforts to release Him; but the Jews shouted, saying,“ If you release this Man, you are not a friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar!”

When they did not find them, they began dragging Jason and some brothers before the city authorities, shouting,“ These men who have upset the world have come here also;and Jason has welcomed them, and they all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”

and he said to them,“ You brought this man to me on the ground that he is inciting the people to revolt; and behold, after examining Him before you, I have found no basis at all in the case of this man for the charges which you are bringing against Him.

and seat two worthless men opposite him, and have them testify against him, saying,‘ You cursed God and the king.’ Then take him out and stone him to death.”So the men of his city, the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did just as Jezebel had sent word to them, just as it was written in the letters which she had sent them.They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth at the head of the people.Then the two worthless men came in and sat opposite him; and the worthless men testified against him, against Naboth, before the people, saying,“ Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death with stones.

Then I did away with the three shepherds in one month, for my soul was impatient with them, and their soul also was tired of me.

and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who disparage your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.For Christ also suffered for sins once for all time, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

Then the officials said to the king,“ Please have this man put to death, since he is discouraging the men of war who are left in this city and all the people, by speaking words like these to them; for this man is not seeking the well being of this people, but rather their harm.”

and when they had brought them to the chief magistrates, they said,“ These men, Jews as they are, are causing our city trouble,and they are proclaiming customs that are not lawful for us to accept or to practice, since we are Romans.”

They answered and said to him,“ If this Man were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.”

For I have heard the whispering of many,“ Terror on every side! Denounce him; let’s denounce him!” All my trusted friends, Watching for my fall, say:“ Perhaps he will be persuaded, so that we may prevail against him And take our revenge on him.”

They have planned only to thrust him down from his high position; They delight in falsehood; They bless with their mouth, But inwardly they curse. Selah

For we have found this man a public menace and one who stirs up dissensions among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

And Jesus said to them,“ Pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they were utterly amazed at Him.

But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”And they all said,“ So You are the Son of God?” And He said to them,“ You say correctly that I am.”

But He kept silent and did not offer any answer. Again the high priest was questioning Him, and* said to Him,“ Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”And Jesus said,“ I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

And the chief priests started accusing Him of many things.But Pilate questioned Him again, saying,“ Do You offer nothing in answer? See how many charges they are bringing against You!”But Jesus said nothing further in answer, so Pilate was amazed.

They* said to Him,“ Caesar’s.” Then He* said to them,“ Then pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.”

Who have sharpened their tongues like a sword. They aimed bitter speech as their arrows,To shoot from concealment at the innocent; Suddenly they shoot at him, and do not fear.They make firm for themselves an evil purpose; They talk of setting snares secretly; They say,“ Who can see them?”They devise injustices, saying,“ We are ready with a well conceived plot”; For the inward thought and the heart of a person are deep.

But they kept on insisting, saying,“ He is stirring up the people, teaching all over Judea, starting from Galilee, as far as this place!”

Now the chief priests and the entire Council kept trying to obtain false testimony against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death.They did not find any, even though many false witnesses came forward. But later on two came forward,

Malicious witnesses rise up; They ask me things that I do not know.

And so they watched Him closely, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could hand Him over to the jurisdiction and authority of the governor.And the spies questioned Him, saying,“ Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God on the basis of truth.Is it permissible for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”But He saw through their trickery and said to them,“ Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They said,“ Caesar’s.”And He said to them,“ Then pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

Now the chief priests and the entire Council were trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any.For many people were giving false testimony against Him, and so their testimonies were not consistent.

However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a stater. Take that and give it to them for you and Me.”

While he was at the Gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah the son of Hananiah was there; and he arrested Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”But Jeremiah said,“ A lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldeans”; yet he would not listen to him. So Irijah arrested Jeremiah and brought him to the officials.Then the officials were angry at Jeremiah and they beat him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe, for they had made it into the prison.

Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse me.

Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent word to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is unable to endure all his words.

When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him,“ Is this you, the cause of disaster to Israel?”

Therefore Pilate entered the Praetorium again, and summoned Jesus and said to Him,“ You are the King of the Jews?”Jesus answered,“ Are you saying this on your own, or did others tell you about Me?”Pilate answered,“ I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests handed You over to me; what have You done?”Jesus answered,“ My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”Therefore Pilate said to Him,“ So You are a king?” Jesus answered,“ You say correctly that I am a king. For this purpose I have been born, and for this I have come into the world: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice.”
