Now Judas, who was betraying Him, also knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with His disciples.So Judas, having obtained the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees,* came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, came out into the open and* said to them,“ Whom are you seeking?”They answered Him,“ Jesus the Nazarene.” He* said to them,“ I am He.” And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them.Now then, when He said to them,“ I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.He then asked them again,“ Whom are you seeking?” And they said,“ Jesus the Nazarene.”Jesus answered,“ I told you that I am He; so if you are seeking Me, let these men go on their way.”This took place so that the word which He spoke would be fulfilled:“ Of those whom You have given Me I lost not one.”Then Simon Peter, since he had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave’s name was Malchus.So Jesus said to Peter,“ Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, am I not to drink it?”

And He* came the third time, and* said to them,“ Are you still sleeping and resting? That is enough. The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.Get up, let’s go; behold, the one who is betraying Me is near!”And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve,* came up, accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs who were from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying,“ Whomever I kiss, He is the one; arrest Him and lead Him away under guard.”And after coming, Judas immediately went to Him and* said,“ Rabbi!” and kissed Him.And they laid hands on Him and arrested Him.But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear.And Jesus said to them,“ Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as you would against a man inciting a revolt?Every day I was with you within the temple grounds teaching, and you did not arrest Me; but this has taken place so that the Scriptures will be fulfilled.”And His disciples all left Him and fled.

Then He* came to the disciples and* said to them,“ Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.Get up, let’s go; behold, the one who is betraying Me is near!”And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came accompanied by a large crowd with swords and clubs, who came from the chief priests and elders of the people.Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign previously, saying,“ Whomever I kiss, He is the one; arrest Him.”And immediately Judas went up to Jesus and said,“ Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.But Jesus said to him,“ Friend, do what you have come for.” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and arrested Him.And behold, one of those who were with Jesus reached and drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear.Then Jesus* said to him,“ Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?”At that time Jesus said to the crowds,“ Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would against a man inciting a revolt? Every day I used to sit within the temple grounds teaching, and you did not arrest Me.But all this has taken place so that the Scriptures of the prophets will be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left Him and fled.

“ Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry.”( Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.
