but the worries of this age, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

For there has already been enough time spent in doing what the Gentiles choose to do: carrying on in unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry.They are surprised that you don’t join them in the same flood of wild living— and they slander you.They will give an account to the one who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.For this reason the gospel was also preached to those who are now dead, so that, although they might be judged in the flesh according to human standards, they might live in the spirit according to God’s standards.The end of all things is near; therefore, be alert and sober-minded for prayer.

But if that servant says in his heart,‘ My master is delaying his coming,’ and starts to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,that servant’s master will come on a day he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unfaithful.

You also be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.

Therefore, dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found without spot or blemish in his sight, at peace.

Now the one sown among the thorns— this is one who hears the word, but the worries of this age and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Even these stagger because of wine and stumble under the influence of beer: Priest and prophet stagger because of beer. They are confused by wine. They stumble because of beer. They are muddled in their visions. They stumble in their judgments.

Promiscuity, wine, and new wine take away one’s understanding.

Remember, then, what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. If you are not alert, I will come like a thief, and you have no idea at what hour I will come upon you.

But actually, I wrote you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister and is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person.

The lamp that guides the wicked— haughty eyes and an arrogant heart— is sin.

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed.
