但如果说‘是来自人间’，那么民众都会用石头砸我们，因为他们深信约翰是先知。”

若說『從人間來』，百姓都要用石頭打死我們，因為他們信約翰是先知。」

但如果說『是來自人間』，那麼民眾都會用石頭砸我們，因為他們深信約翰是先知。」

若云自人、眾民必以石擊我、蓋民信約翰為先知也、

若云由人、民必石擊我、蓋民信約翰為先知也、

若云自人、民必以石擊我、蓋民皆信約翰為先知也、

若云自人、又恐犯眾怒、而遭石擊、蓋眾皆確信如望之為先知也。』

But if we shall say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.

And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

But when they sought to lay hands on Him, they feared the multitudes, because they took Him for a prophet.

Then many came to Him and said,“ John performed no sign, but all the things that John spoke about this Man were true.”

Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.

“ And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.This is he of whom it is written:‘ Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.’For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John.

But they said,“ Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.”

And they sought to lay hands on Him, but feared the multitude, for they knew He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went away.
