若輩乃互議曰：『如謂自天、彼將曰胡不信之；

They discussed it among themselves and said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

They talked to one another about it. They said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

And they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why did you not believe him?’

They talked it over among themselves.“ If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John.

They reasoned with themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

信从子的人，就有永恒的生命；但是不肯信从子的人，见不到生命，而且神的震怒也停留在他身上。

我看到了，就见证：这一位就是神的儿子。”

他们就到约翰那里，对他说：“拉比，你看，以前与你在约旦河对岸的，就是你所见证的那一位，他也在施洗，而且大家都到他那里去了。”

约翰为他做见证，呼喊说：“这一位就是我曾说过的，‘那在我之后来的，已成为在我前面的，因为他在我之前就已经存在。’”原来从他的丰盛完美中，我们都领受了恩典，而且恩上加恩。因为律法是藉着摩西赐下的，恩典和真理是藉着耶稣基督而来的。从来没有人看见神，只有在父怀里的那位独生子——神，他将神表明了出来。

你们曾经派人到约翰那里，他为真理做了见证。其实我所接受的见证不是从人来的。不过我说这些话，是为了要你们得救。约翰是一盏燃烧发光的灯，你们情愿在他的光里快乐一时。

当约翰快要跑尽该跑的路程时，说：‘你们认为我是谁？我不是那一位。看哪，他要在我以后来，我就是为他解脚上的鞋带也不配。’

这一位就是我所说的‘那在我之后来的人，已成为在我前面的，因为在我之前他就存在了。’
