And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why did ye not believe him?

若輩乃互議曰：『如謂自天、彼將曰胡不信之；

They discussed it among themselves and said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

They talked to one another about it. They said,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will ask,‘ Why didn’t you believe him?’

And they discussed it with one another, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Why did you not believe him?’

They talked it over among themselves.“ If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John.

He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.

And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

And they came unto John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.

John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me.For of his fulness we all received, and grace for grace.For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth.But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved.He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.

And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.

This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is become before me: for he was before me.
