“ Tell us by what authority you are doing these things,” they said.“ Who gave you this authority?”

and said to him,“ Tell us by what authority you do these things, or who it is that gave you this authority.”

They demanded,“ By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?”

and they declared, saying to Him,“ Tell us by what authority You are doing these things, or who is the one who gave You this authority?”

and spoke to Him, saying,“ Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Or who is he who gave You this authority?”

and they spake, saying unto him, Tell us: By what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

and said to Him:“ Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Who is it who gave You this authority?”

And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

and said to him,“ Tell us: By what authority are you doing these things? Or who it is who gave you this authority?”

They asked him,“ Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?”

So the Jews replied to him,“ What sign will you show us for doing these things?”

When he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching and said,“ By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority?”Jesus answered them,“ I will also ask you one question, and if you answer it for me, then I will tell you by what authority I do these things.Did John’s baptism come from heaven, or was it of human origin?” They discussed it among themselves,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say to us,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’But if we say,‘ Of human origin,’ we’re afraid of the crowd, because everyone considers John to be a prophet.”So they answered Jesus,“ We don’t know.” And he said to them,“ Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

and asked him,“ By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority to do these things?”Jesus said to them,“ I will ask you one question; then answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.Was John’s baptism from heaven or of human origin? Answer me.”They discussed it among themselves:“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’But if we say,‘ Of human origin’”— they were afraid of the crowd, because everyone thought that John was truly a prophet.So they answered Jesus,“ We don’t know.” And Jesus said to them,“ Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

“ But the one who was mistreating his neighbor pushed Moses aside, saying: Who appointed you a ruler and a judge over us?

“ Who made you a commander and judge over us?” the man replied.“ Are you planning to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses became afraid and thought,“ What I did is certainly known.”

After they had Peter and John stand before them, they began to question them:“ By what power or in what name have you done this?”Then Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and said to them,“ Rulers of the people and elders:If we are being examined today about a good deed done to a disabled man, by what means he was healed,let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified and whom God raised from the dead— by him this man is standing here before you healthy.

“ You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your ancestors did, you do also.

The Father, in fact, judges no one but has given all judgment to the Son,so that all people may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.“ Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.“ Truly I tell you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he has granted to the Son to have life in himself.And he has granted him the right to pass judgment, because he is the Son of Man.

“ This Moses, whom they rejected when they said, Who appointed you a ruler and a judge?— this one God sent as a ruler and a deliverer through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.This man led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.“ This is the Moses who said to the Israelites: God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.He is the one who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors. He received living oracles to give to us.Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him. Instead, they pushed him aside, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

Then they brought it to Jesus, and after throwing their clothes on the colt, they helped Jesus get on it.As he was going along, they were spreading their clothes on the road.Now he came near the path down the Mount of Olives, and the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen:Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven!Some of the Pharisees from the crowd told him,“ Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”He answered,“ I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out.”

He went into the temple and began to throw out those who were selling,and he said,“ It is written, my house will be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves!”
