Lord, I have not abandoned my job as a shepherd for your people. I have not urged you to send disaster. You have heard everything I’ve said.

How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.And now, look, your house is abandoned. And you will never see me again until you say,‘ Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

Seeing these traitors makes me sick at heart, because they care nothing for your word.

If only my head were a pool of water and my eyes a fountain of tears, I would weep day and night for all my people who have been slaughtered.

I become furious with the wicked, because they reject your instructions.

And if you still refuse to listen, I will weep alone because of your pride. My eyes will overflow with tears, because the Lord’s flock will be led away into exile.

“ Oh, how can I give you up, Israel? How can I let you go? How can I destroy you like Admah or demolish you like Zeboiim? My heart is torn within me, and my compassion overflows.

My heart is filled with bitter sorrow and unending grieffor my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed— cut off from Christ!— if that would save them.
