“ He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.

“ But he was made king and returned home. Then he sent for the slaves he had given the money to. He wanted to find out what they had earned with it.

When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by doing business.

“ At his return, having received the authority to be king, he summoned those servants he had given the money to, so that he could find out how much they had made in business.

When he returned after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be summoned to him so that he would learn how much they had made by the business they had done.

“ And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

And it came to pass, when he was come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, unto whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading.

在天者必大笑兮。笑蜉蝣之不知自量。終必勃然而怒兮。以懲當車之螳螂。主曰吾已立君於西溫聖山之上兮。

主召之曰：「聞人言爾、何竟至此、茲後解雇、其速交代、毋掌吾家。」掌家自思曰：「主免吾職、將如之何？耕既無力、丐又無顏。予茲知所為矣。必使罷業後、有人迎我入其家、方為得計。」爰召各債戶、問先至者曰：「汝負吾主幾何？」對曰：「油百簍。」曰：「請收回尊券、速坐、改書五十。」又問其次曰：「汝負幾何？」曰：「麥百斛。」曰：「請收回尊券、改書八十。」掌家固不義、然其深思遠慮、即其主人、亦不能不為之歎佩。蓋世俗子之所以謀身者、有敏於光明子之所以謀道者焉。故予勸爾、亟以虛夸之財富、廣結良友、則爾謝世之時、必有迎爾入於永宅者矣。夫人忠於小事、亦必忠於大事、不義於小事、亦必不義於大事。爾若處理虛夸之財富、猶不能盡忠、誰復託爾以真富耶？處理他人之事、猶不克盡職、誰復授爾以切身之事耶？一僕不能事二主、非惡此而愛彼、即厚此而薄彼、天主與財富、固不能兼事也。』

今爾何人、竟敢指摘爾之兄弟耶！爾果何人、乃敢藐視爾之兄弟耶！豈不知吾人皆須立於天主臺前、而聽其審判乎。經有之：『主曰、吾憑己之常生而誓、血氣之倫、皆當向我屈膝；含生之屬、皆當向我投誠。』是知每人終須向天主述職也。

人當視吾輩為基督之臣僕、天主眾妙之司庫。夫世之所求於司庫者、亦惟忠信而已矣。然爾等或世人之褒貶毀譽、於我猶如浮雲；我亦不敢自評功罪、蓋我雖內省不疚、亦不能因是而知免；知我罪我、惟有主耳。故望爾等在時機未熟之前、勿遽下評斷；務須靜候主之來臨。屆時、彼必燭幽揚隱、揭曉人心之思慮；而人人必得公允之褒獎矣。

其不知而行當罰之罪者、受撻猶少。誠以賦之厚、則望之深、託之重、則責之嚴也。

久之、主人返、與僕清計。

是故天國譬諸人君與群臣清計；始計時、有攜負銀千萬者至、無以償、君命其自鬻、並鬻其妻孥家產以償。其人俯伏而求曰：「乞主寬延時日、我當盡償。」君憐而釋之、寬貸其債。臣出、遇同僚、負其銀百枚、執之、扼其吭、曰：「償爾負。」僚友俯伏而求曰：「乞爾寬延時日、我當盡償。」弗許、下之獄以俟清償所負。同僚見之、咸抱不平、訴於君。君召之曰：「狠心惡奴爾求我、予寬爾債；爾不當憐爾同僚、一若予之憐爾乎？」君怒、發之獄吏、俟其清償所負。倘爾不本真心、各恕兄弟、則在天我父亦將以是待爾焉。』
