And He told them:“ You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly admired by people is revolting in God’s sight.

There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, yet is not washed from its filth.

They say,‘ Keep to yourself, don’t come near me, for I am too holy for you!’ These practices are smoke in My nostrils, a fire that burns all day long.

But you, why do you criticize your brother? Or you, why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before the tribunal of God.

But Israel, pursuing the law for righteousness, has not achieved the righteousness of the law.Why is that? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.

Because they disregarded the righteousness from God and attempted to establish their own righteousness, they have not submitted themselves to God’s righteousness.

Then the Pharisees responded to them:“ Are you fooled too?Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him?But this crowd, which doesn’t know the law, is accursed!”

The Pharisee took his stand and was praying like this:‘ God, I thank You that I’m not like other people— greedy, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

although I once also had confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he has grounds for confidence in the flesh, I have more:circumcised the eighth day; of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; regarding the law, a Pharisee;regarding zeal, persecuting the church; regarding the righteousness that is in the law, blameless.

When the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself,“ This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman this is who is touching Him— she’s a sinner!”

Once I was alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life

They ridiculed him:“ You’re that man’s disciple, but we’re Moses’ disciples.

But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”

You who tremble at His word, hear the word of the Lord:“ Your brothers who hate and exclude you because of Me have said,‘ Let the Lord be glorified so that we can see your joy!’ But they will be put to shame.”

“ Then He said to me,‘ Go, because I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”

The Jews responded to Him,“ Aren’t we right in saying that You’re a Samaritan and have a demon?”

All who saw it began to complain,“ He’s gone to lodge with a sinful man!”

And the Pharisees and scribes were complaining,“ This man welcomes sinners and eats with them!”

But he replied to his father,‘ Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’

“ You were born entirely in sin,” they replied,“ and are you trying to teach us?” Then they threw him out.
