若夫徒恃律法者、則實處於咒咀之下。經不云乎：『凡不遵行律法之一切規定者、應服咒詛。』是則無人能因律法而成義、不亦彰彰明甚。蓋「義者惟恃信德而有生命、」而律法則無與於信德、但云：『順此者存』而已。夫基督已代我受詛、而贖我於律法之詛矣。蓋經有云：『懸於木上者、服咒咀』也。

曰『經何云？』曰『爾當盡爾之心、盡爾之情、盡爾之力、盡爾之知、以愛天主、並愛鄰如己。』主曰：『善哉對！但遵此行、爾則生矣！』

蓋徒恃遵行律法、無人能稱義於天主之前；惟因法而知罪耳。
