But Jesus said to them,“ You are the ones who justify yourselves in men’s eyes, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly prized among men is utterly detestable in God’s sight.

And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

A person’s pride will bring him low, but one who has a lowly spirit will gain honor.

Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says,“ God opposes the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.”

Though the LORD is exalted, he takes note of the lowly, and recognizes the proud from far away.

Although he is scornful to arrogant scoffers, yet he shows favor to the humble.

He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position;

For this is what the high and exalted one says, the one who rules forever, whose name is holy:“ I dwell in an exalted and holy place, but also with the discouraged and humiliated, in order to cheer up the humiliated and to encourage the discouraged.

For no one is declared righteous before him by the works of the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

She said,“ May I, your servant, find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and got something to eat. Her face no longer looked sad.

yet we know that no one is justified by the works of the law but by the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by the faithfulness of Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.

Now I know that the LORD is greater than all the gods, for in the thing in which they dealt proudly against them he has destroyed them.”

When people are brought low and you say‘ Lift them up!’ then he will save the downcast;

In the same way, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.And God will exalt you in due time, if you humble yourselves under his mighty hand

The fear of the LORD provides wise instruction, and before honor comes humility.

Before destruction the heart of a person is proud, but humility comes before honor.

Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous, his faith is credited as righteousness.

Although I am innocent, my mouth would condemn me; although I am blameless, it would declare me perverse.

But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”– he said to the paralyzed man–“ I tell you, stand up, take your stretcher and go home.”Immediately he stood up before them, picked up the stretcher he had been lying on, and went home, glorifying God.

But the expert, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”

“ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

How then can a human being be righteous before God? How can one born of a woman be pure?

Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.It is better to be lowly in spirit with the afflicted than to share the spoils with the proud.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, for all his deeds are right and his ways are just. He is able to bring down those who live in pride.

Proud men will be brought low, arrogant men will be humiliated; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.Indeed, the LORD who commands armies has planned a day of judgment, for all the high and mighty, for all who are proud– they will be humiliated;for all the cedars of Lebanon, that are so high and mighty, for all the oaks of Bashan;for all the tall mountains, for all the high hills,for every high tower, for every fortified wall,for all the large ships, for all the impressive ships.Proud men will be humiliated, arrogant men will be brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

Look, the one whose desires are not upright will faint from exhaustion, but the person of integrity will live because of his faithfulness.

Do not sit in judgment on your servant, for no one alive is innocent before you.

Do you have an arm as powerful as God’s, and can you thunder with a voice like his?Adorn yourself, then, with majesty and excellency, and clothe yourself with glory and honor!Scatter abroad the abundance of your anger. Look at every proud man and bring him low;Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot!Hide them in the dust together, imprison them in the grave.

All the descendants of Israel will be vindicated by the LORD and will boast in him.

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?You see that his faith was working together with his works and his faith was perfected by works.And the scripture was fulfilled that says,“ Now Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.And similarly, was not Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by another way?

Having suffered, he will reflect on his work, he will be satisfied when he understands what he has done.“ My servant will acquit many, for he carried their sins.

Therefore I tell you, her sins, which were many, are forgiven, thus she loved much; but the one who is forgiven little loves little.”Then Jesus said to her,“ Your sins are forgiven.”But those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves,“ Who is this, who even forgives sins?”He said to the woman,“ Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Go, eat your food with joy, and drink your wine with a happy heart, because God has already approved your works.
