蓋自尊者必見抑、而自謙者必見升也。』

耶穌曰：『爾曹希俗取容、矯義人前、而天主固洞悉爾心。應知人之所貴、正天主之所賤也。

蓋自高者必見抑、而自謙者必被舉也。

在天主明鑒之下、小心翼翼、謙卑自牧、則天主必予爾等以升擢矣。

且天主之所以福惠吾人者、亦已厚矣。經云：『天主抑驕福謙、』此之謂也。

高高無與比。謙謙獨蒙憐。驕者終被抑。傲人遭棄捐。

王侯遭傾覆、卑賤升高位；

蓋徒恃遵行律法、無人能稱義於天主之前；惟因法而知罪耳。

雖然、吾人既知人之成義、非憑律法、惟憑篤信基督、故毅然惟基督是信、亦欲緣篤信基督、不恃律法、而成義耳。無他、血氣之倫、未有僅憑遵行律法、而成義者也。

幼輩亦當順服長老。彼此之間、皆當以謙德自束。應知天主損傲益謙；是宜於天主宏能統制之下、溫恭謙讓、庶得於適宜之時蒙其拔擢。一切憂慮可投諸天主之身；蓋天主眷顧爾等、無微不至。

吾人既因信德而成義、則當托庇吾主耶穌基督、融融洩洩以親天主矣。

正惟不以事功為言、而篤信赦罪之主、乃能因其信德而稱義耳。

第欲爾曹知人子在世、自有赦罪之權耳。』乃顧謂癩者曰：『予命爾起！將爾褥、返爾居！』其人即起、當眾謳歌天主而歸。

經生又強辯曰：『誰為吾鄰？』

『安貧樂道乃真福巍巍天國斯人屬。

主之所陟、誰得而黜之？主之所義、誰得而罪之？

勿究我之罪。求爾賜寬恕。凡屬血氣倫。誰能無忝主。

昔亞伯漢曾毅然以其子伊灑格獻於祭壇之上矣。彼非以行而取義耶？可見其行固有恃乎其信、為之推動、而其信亦有待乎其行、為之玉成也。於是古經所載亞伯漢因信天主而成聖、且稱為「天主之友」云者、乃獲當然之補充、而厥義大備矣。可見人之稱義、以其所行、而不僅憑其所信而已。再如花娘拉哈收留使者、示以改道而歸；寧非以行見義乎？

故予語爾、彼所有諸罪、悉見寬免；以彼之愛深也！惟蒙赦少者、其愛亦淺耳。』乃謂女曰：『爾罪赦矣！』同席者竊議曰：『彼何人斯、乃能赦罪耶！』耶穌復謂女曰：『汝之信德、玉汝於成；其安心以去。』
