“ But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said,‘ God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

If we say,“ We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.If we say,“ We don’t have any sin,” we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance:“ Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”— and I am the worst of them.

All the crowds that had gathered for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, went home, striking their chests.

When they heard this, they came under deep conviction and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles:“ Brothers, what must we do?”

But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!

Then I said: Woe is me for I am ruined because I am a man of unclean lips and live among a people of unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts.

You welcome the one who joyfully does what is right; they remember You in Your ways. But we have sinned, and You were angry. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said,“ Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!”

so that when I make atonement for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed, and never open your mouth again because of your disgrace.” This is the declaration of the Lord God.

“ Come, let us discuss this,” says the Lord.“ Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are as red as crimson, they will be like wool.

Be gracious to me, God, according to Your faithful love; according to Your abundant compassion, blot out my rebellion.Wash away my guilt and cleanse me from my sin.For I am conscious of my rebellion, and my sin is always before me.

For consider how much diligence this very thing— this grieving as God wills— has produced in you: what a desire to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what deep longing, what zeal, what justice! In every way you showed yourselves to be pure in this matter.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord. For there is faithful love with the Lord, and with Him is redemption in abundance.

Yahweh, if You considered sins, Lord, who could stand?But with You there is forgiveness, so that You may be revered.

Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but this day public shame belongs to us: the men of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel— those who are near and those who are far, in all the countries where You have dispersed them because of the disloyalty they have shown toward You.Lord, public shame belongs to us, our kings, our leaders, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.Compassion and forgiveness belong to the Lord our God, though we have rebelled against Himand have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by following His instructions that He set before us through His servants the prophets.All Israel has broken Your law and turned away, refusing to obey You.
