弟兄們，論到時候和日期，不用寫甚麼給你們了。因為你們自己清楚知道，主的日子來到，就像夜間的賊來到一樣。人正在說平安穩妥的時候，毀滅性的災禍就突然臨到他們，好像生產的痛苦臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕不能逃脫。

然後，我要對我的靈魂說：靈魂啊，你擁有許多好東西，足夠多年享用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快樂吧！’神卻對他說：‘無知的人哪，今天晚上，你的靈魂必被取去，你所預備的要歸給誰呢？’

“耶和華你的神領你進入他向你列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許給你的地；那裡有不是你建造的，又高大又美麗的城市，有裝滿各樣美物的房子，不是你裝滿的；有鑿成的水池，不是你鑿成的；還有葡萄園和橄欖園，不是你栽種的；你可以吃，並且吃得飽足。那時，你要謹慎，免得你忘記了耶和華，就是把你從埃及地，從為奴之家領出來的那一位。

到那日，主萬軍之耶和華叫人哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，穿上麻布。看哪！人還是歡喜快樂，宰牛殺羊，吃肉喝酒，說：“我們吃喝吧！因為明天我們就要死了。”萬軍之耶和華親自啟示我說：“直到你們死的時候，這罪孽也不得赦免。”這是主萬軍之耶和華說的。

亞比該到了拿八那裡，他正在家中擺設筵席，好像帝王的筵席一樣。拿八心裡暢快，喝得爛醉如泥，所以無論大事小事亞比該都沒有告訴他，直到第二天早晨。到了早晨，拿八酒醒了，他的妻子才把這些事告訴他，他就嚇得魂不附體，立刻中風癱瘓了。大約過了十天，耶和華擊打拿八，他就死了。

我的心迷糊，驚恐威嚇著我；我所愛慕的黃昏，竟使我戰兢。

恐怕你吃飽了，建造美好的房屋居住，你的牛羊加多，你的金銀增添，你所有的一切都增加了，那時，你就心高氣傲，忘記了耶和華你的神，就是把你從埃及地，從為奴之家領出來的那一位。

“有一個財主，身穿紫色袍和細麻衣，天天奢華宴樂。又有一個乞丐，名叫拉撒路，滿身是瘡，被人放在財主門口，想得財主桌子上掉下來的零碎充飢；並且有狗來舔他的瘡。後來乞丐死了，被天使送到亞伯拉罕的懷裡。那財主也死了，並且埋葬了。財主在陰間受痛苦，舉目遠遠望見亞伯拉罕，和他懷裡的拉撒路，

他們的家宅平安無懼，神的刑杖也不加在他們身上。他們的公牛交配而不落種，他們的母牛下犢而不掉胎，他們叫小孩子出去多如羊群，他們的年輕人四處跳躍；他們跟著琴鼓高歌，又因著簫的聲音歡樂。他們幸福度過他們的日子，一剎那間下陰間，毫無病痛。
