For I was envious at the arrogant, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.For there are no pangs in their death; But their strength is firm.They are not in trouble as other men; Neither are they plagued like other men.Therefore pride is as a chain about their neck; Violence covereth them as a garment.Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish.

And he said also unto the disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he was wasting his goods.

And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:and he reasoned within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have not where to bestow my fruits?And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my grain and my goods.And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry.But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is thy soul required of thee; and the things which thou hast prepared, whose shall they be?So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

And the weight of the golden ear- rings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; besides the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and besides the chains that were about their camels’ necks.

Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil; and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper unto royal estate.

saying, Woe, woe, the great city, she that was arrayed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stone and pearl!
