His food was locusts and wild honey.Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them,“ You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!Don’t think to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.“ Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”

Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins,and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation;namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation.We are therefore ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.Working together, we entreat also that you do not receive the grace of God in vain,

Yes, and all the prophets from Samuel and those who followed after, as many as have spoken, they also told of these days.You are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham,‘ All the families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring.’God, having raised up his servant Jesus, sent him to you first to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your wickedness.”

Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out,“ If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!

Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.

He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.He sent them out to preach God’s Kingdom and to heal the sick.He said to them,“ Take nothing for your journey— no staffs, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money. Don’t have two coats each.Into whatever house you enter, stay there, and depart from there.As many as don’t receive you, when you depart from that city, shake off even the dust from your feet for a testimony against them.”

Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place where he was about to come.Then he said to them,“ The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send out laborers into his harvest.Go your ways. Behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.Carry no purse, nor wallet, nor sandals. Greet no one on the way.Into whatever house you enter, first say,‘ Peace be to this house.’If a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.Remain in that same house, eating and drinking the things they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Don’t go from house to house.Into whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat the things that are set before you.Heal the sick who are there, and tell them,‘ God’s Kingdom has come near to you.’But into whatever city you enter, and they don’t receive you, go out into its streets and say,‘ Even the dust from your city that clings to us, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that God’s Kingdom has come near to you.’I tell you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.

As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,“ The voice of one crying in the wilderness,‘ Make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.Every valley will be filled. Every mountain and hill will be brought low. The crooked will become straight, and the rough ways smooth.All flesh will see God’s salvation.’”
