But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

But suppose the servant does not know his master’s wishes. And suppose the servant does things for which he should be punished. He will receive a lighter beating. Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. Even more will be asked of the person who is supposed to take care of much.

But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.

But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.

兄弟中多有好為人師者、是亦謬甚。應知為師者、責任最重。

昔有人焉、將遠行、召其諸僕、託以家貲、有授金五千者、有二千者、有一千者、亦各因其才耳。託付既畢、遂登程。其受五千者、出而貿易、獲利五千。受二千者、亦獲利二千。受一千者、則出而掘窟於地、以埋其金。久之、主人返、與僕清計。受五千者、攜同贏餘五千以至、而白主曰：「吾主昔以五千金見託予茲又獲五千。」主曰：「俞、忠信之僕也？爾既忠於小事、將託爾以大事。其進而享乃主之樂。」受二千者亦謂曰：「吾主以二千金見託、予茲又獲二千。」主曰：「俞、忠信之僕也；爾既忠於小事、將託爾以大事。其進而享乃主之樂。」受一千者繼至、曰：「素知吾主刻薄寡恩、不播而穫、不散而斂；吾懼焉、因埋金於地；茲以原物奉璧。」其主應曰：「嗟爾惡而且惰之僕！爾既知予不播而穫、不散而斂、胡不以我之財、存諸錢賈、使予歸時亦得兼收本利乎！」亟奪其金、以授得有萬金之僕。蓋有者益之、使沛然有餘、而無者並其所有而奪之。

誠以有者益之、使沛然充溢、而無者並奪其所有。

夫人忠於小事、亦必忠於大事、不義於小事、亦必不義於大事。爾若處理虛夸之財富、猶不能盡忠、誰復託爾以真富耶？處理他人之事、猶不克盡職、誰復授爾以切身之事耶？

我本為褻瀆天主、摧殘教會、倨傲無禮之人、而竟蒙天主之矜憐者、蓋以我當時未有信德、盲目而行耳。

予苟未來施訓於人、其人尚可無咎、今則末由辭其咎矣。

凡犯罪於法外者、沉淪於法外；犯罪於法內者、伏辜於法內。在天主前、徒聞法者、不足為義、惟行法者稱義。設有異邦人、雖未聞法、而所行自然與法相符、則雖無法、而其身自足為法。若是者顯然有法銘於其心、且有良心為之證明、必能辨別是非、而自為黜陟於審判之日。是日也、天主將以耶穌基督審判人之隱私、如我福音所言也。

主召之曰：「聞人言爾、何竟至此、茲後解雇、其速交代、毋掌吾家。」

蒂茂德乎、所授於汝之託付、汝其謹守勿失。凡支離忘本之空談、似是而非之詭辯、皆汝所應深惡而痛絕也。

以及其他違悖正道者而設也。正道者何、即全德天主光榮之福音是已；而予則受斯重寄焉。

昔在蒙昧之世、天主尚予優容、今已檄曉人群、咸當幡然悔改、

及時昭著、而發為福音者也。予奉天主救主之命、而得以福音為己任焉。

若予之傳道為出於自動、則受酬宜也、今既有所受命、則在予為一受託之義務而已。然則吾果無報酬乎？曰：正惟吾傳福音而不受酬、而不享受權利、酬在其中矣。
