But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

“可是神对他说：‘你这愚妄的人哪！今夜，他们就要召回你的灵魂了。那么，你所预备的要归谁呢？’

但上帝卻對他說：「糊塗人哪，就在今天夜裏，你的財物就要要你的命了！你所豫備的、要歸誰呢？」

「可是神對他說：『你這愚妄的人哪！今夜，他們就要召回你的靈魂了。那麼，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』

惟上帝謂之曰、無知者乎、今夜將索爾靈、則所備者誰歸、

上帝曰、無知者乎、今夜將索爾魂、則所備者誰歸、

惟天主謂之曰、愚者乎、今夜將索爾靈、則所備者歸於誰、

詎天主謂之曰：「愚人、今夕欲索爾魂、爾之所備、將誰歸乎？」

But God said to him,‘ Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is thy soul required of thee; and the things which thou hast prepared, whose shall they be?

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’

But God said unto him,[ Thou] fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

“ But God said to him,‘ You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared— whose will they be?’

The person who gathers wealth by unjust means is like the partridge that broods over eggs but does not hatch them. Before his life is half over he will lose his ill-gotten gains. At the end of his life it will be clear he was a fool.”

Surely people go through life as mere ghosts. Surely they accumulate worthless wealth without knowing who will eventually haul it away.”

For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?

For we have brought nothing into this world and so we cannot take a single thing out either.

If he piles up silver like dust and stores up clothing like mounds of clay,what he stores up a righteous man will wear, and an innocent man will inherit his silver.

You fools! Didn’t the one who made the outside make the inside as well?

“ Now the poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.And in hell, as he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far off with Lazarus at his side.

Yet God will make you a permanent heap of ruins. He will scoop you up and remove you from your home; he will uproot you from the land of the living.( Selah)When the godly see this, they will be filled with awe, and will mock the evildoer, saying:“ Look, here is the man who would not make God his protector! He trusted in his great wealth and was confident about his plans to destroy others.”

For he will take nothing with him when he dies; his wealth will not follow him down into the grave.He pronounces this blessing on himself while he is alive:“ May men praise you, for you have done well!”But he will join his ancestors; they will never again see the light of day.

You do not know about tomorrow. What is your life like? For you are a puff of smoke that appears for a short time and then vanishes.

Then that wealth was lost through bad luck; although he fathered a son, he has nothing left to give him.Just as he came forth from his mother’s womb, naked will he return as he came, and he will take nothing in his hand that he may carry away from his toil.This is another misfortune: Just as he came, so will he go. What did he gain from toiling for the wind?

The one who increases his wealth by increasing interest gathers it for someone who is gracious to the needy.

Haman then recounted to them his fabulous wealth, his many sons, and how the king had magnified him and exalted him over the king’s other officials and servants.

They were not yet filled up, their food was still in their mouths,

Surely they will be totally consumed like entangled thorn bushes, like the drink of drunkards, like very dry stubble.

But if that evil slave should say to himself,‘ My master is staying away a long time,’and he begins to beat his fellow slaves and to eat and drink with drunkards,then the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not foresee,and will cut him in two, and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

On that same day King Ahasuerus gave the estate of Haman, that adversary of the Jews, to Queen Esther. Now Mordecai had come before the king, for Esther had revealed how he was related to her.The king then removed his signet ring( the very one he had taken back from Haman) and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther designated Mordecai to be in charge of Haman’s estate.

So I loathed all the fruit of my effort, for which I worked so hard on earth, because I must leave it behind in the hands of my successor.Who knows if he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will be master over all the fruit of my labor for which I worked so wisely on earth! This also is futile!So I began to despair about all the fruit of my labor for which I worked so hard on earth.For a man may do his work with wisdom, knowledge, and skill; however, he must hand over the fruit of his labor as an inheritance to someone else who did not work for it. This also is futile, and an awful injustice!What does a man acquire from all his labor and from the anxiety that accompanies his toil on earth?

For he knows no satisfaction in his appetite; he does not let anything he desires escape.“ Nothing is left for him to devour; that is why his prosperity does not last.In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress overtakes him. the full force of misery will come upon him.“ While he is filling his belly, God sends his burning anger against him, and rains down his blows upon him.

Now when they are saying,“ There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will surely not escape.

His servant Zimri, a commander of half of his chariot force, conspired against him. While Elah was drinking heavily at the house of Arza, who supervised the palace in Tirzah,Zimri came in and struck him dead.( This happened in the twenty-seventh year of Asa’s reign over Judah.) Zimri replaced Elah as king.

Absalom instructed his servants,“ Look! When Amnon is drunk and I say to you,‘ Strike Amnon down,’ kill him then and there. Don’t fear! Is it not I who have given you these instructions? Be strong and courageous!”So Absalom’s servants did to Amnon exactly what Absalom had instructed. Then all the king’s sons got up; each one rode away on his mule and fled.

King Belshazzar prepared a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine in front of them all.While under the influence of the wine, Belshazzar issued an order to bring in the gold and silver vessels– the ones that Nebuchadnezzar his father had confiscated from the temple in Jerusalem– so that the king and his nobles, together with his wives and his concubines, could drink from them.So they brought the gold and silver vessels that had been confiscated from the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, together with his wives and concubines, drank from them.As they drank wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.At that very moment the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the royal palace wall, opposite the lampstand. The king was watching the back of the hand that was writing.Then all the color drained from the king’s face and he became alarmed. The joints of his hips gave way, and his knees began knocking together.

How desolate they become in a mere moment! Terrifying judgments make their demise complete!

Wealth does not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from mortal danger.

When Abigail went back to Nabal, he was holding a banquet in his house like that of the king. Nabal was having a good time and was very intoxicated. She told him absolutely nothing until morning’s light.In the morning, when Nabal was sober, his wife told him about these matters. He had a stroke and was paralyzed.After about ten days the LORD struck Nabal down and he died.

Then Moses said to Aaron,“ Tell the whole community of the Israelites,‘ Come before the LORD, because he has heard your murmurings.’”As Aaron spoke to the whole community of the Israelites and they looked toward the desert, there the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud,
