Because of this, God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’

因此天主之妙慧、曾作警言曰：「予遣先知宗徒於若輩有為所害、有為所辱、

So God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send prophets and apostles to them. They will kill some. And they will try to hurt others.’

Therefore also the Wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’

This is what God in his wisdom said about you:‘ I will send prophets and apostles to them, but they will kill some and persecute the others.’

Because of this, the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’

for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight;for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair;for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young—let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.

You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.Everyone will hate you because of me.

It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them.He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword.

Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priestand asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

And when the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I stood there giving my approval and guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.’

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,

Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars.She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city,

and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.

but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him,dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”Then he fell on his knees and cried out,“ Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.And Saul approved of their killing him. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea,

Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?At the highest point along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand;beside the gate leading into the city, at the entrance, she cries aloud:“ To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind.You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, set your hearts on it.Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness.All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse.To the discerning all of them are right; they are upright to those who have found knowledge.Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold,for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.“ I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.

I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison,as the high priest and all the Council can themselves testify. I even obtained letters from them to their associates in Damascus, and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished.

The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them.

Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.

And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the Lord’s people in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them.Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was so obsessed with persecuting them that I even hunted them down in foreign cities.

But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.
