So you testify that you approve of what your ancestors did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.

如是爾祖所為、爾自證之、且喜之、蓋爾祖殺先知、爾則建其墓、

祖殺先知、而爾築其墓足徵爾實默認乃祖之所為矣。

Your own mouth condemns you, not mine; your own lips testify against you.

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy.

Then Joshua said,“ You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the Lord.”“ Yes, we are witnesses,” they replied.

Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.
