Because of this, God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’

You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.Everyone will hate you because of me. (niv)

On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. (niv)

Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, (niv)

Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?At the highest point along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand;beside the gate leading into the city, at the entrance, she cries aloud:“ To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind.You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, set your hearts on it.Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness.All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse.To the discerning all of them are right; they are upright to those who have found knowledge.Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold,for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.“ I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison,as the high priest and all the Council can themselves testify. I even obtained letters from them to their associates in Damascus, and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished. (niv)

The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. (niv)

Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation. And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the Lord’s people in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them.Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was so obsessed with persecuting them that I even hunted them down in foreign cities. (niv)

But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison. (niv)
