But in fact, you stand as witnesses who agree with what your ancestors did. They killed the prophets, and you join in their crime by building the monuments!

如是爾祖所為、爾自證之、且喜之、蓋爾祖殺先知、爾則建其墓、

祖殺先知、而爾築其墓足徵爾實默認乃祖之所為矣。

So you testify that you approve of what your ancestors did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.

So you show that you agree with what your people did long ago. They killed the prophets, and now you build the prophets’ tombs.

So you are witnesses and you consent to the deeds of your fathers, for they killed them, and you build their tombs.

Therefore, you are witnesses that you approve the deeds of your fathers, for they killed them, and you build their monuments.

So you are witnesses and you approve of the deeds of your fathers; because it was they who killed them, and you build their tombs.

In fact, you bear witness that you approve the deeds of your fathers; for they indeed killed them, and you build their tombs.

So ye are witnesses and consent unto the works of your fathers: for they killed them, and ye build their tombs.

Their own tongues will ruin them, and all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.

“ But in saying that, you testify against yourselves that you are indeed the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.

“ You stubborn people! You are heathen at heart and deaf to the truth. Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit? That’s what your ancestors did, and so do you!Name one prophet your ancestors didn’t persecute! They even killed the ones who predicted the coming of the Righteous One— the Messiah whom you betrayed and murdered.

But the farmers grabbed his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.So the landowner sent a larger group of his servants to collect for him, but the results were the same.“ Finally, the owner sent his son, thinking,‘ Surely they will respect my son.’“ But when the tenant farmers saw his son coming, they said to one another,‘ Here comes the heir to this estate. Come on, let’s kill him and get the estate for ourselves!’

Your own mouth condemns you, not I. Your own lips testify against you.

But the people mocked these messengers of God and despised their words. They scoffed at the prophets until the Lord’s anger could no longer be restrained and nothing could be done.

“ You are a witness to your own decision,” Joshua said.“ You have chosen to serve the Lord.”“ Yes,” they replied,“ we are witnesses to what we have said.”

For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

“‘ What?’ you ask.‘ Doesn’t the child pay for the parent’s sins?’ No! For if the child does what is just and right and keeps my decrees, that child will surely live.

Women received their loved ones back again from death. But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection.Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons.Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated.They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.
