As the crowds increased, Jesus said,“ This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.

更有試耶穌者、求其自天示靈徵。

法利塞人出詰耶穌、求其自天顯靈徵、意在試之。耶穌衷心長歎曰：『斯代奚為求靈徵也！予誠告爾、實無靈徵可示斯代也。』

時經生與法利塞人應曰：『夫子、願一觀爾之靈徵。』耶穌對曰：『以邪惡不淑之世代、而求靈徵、除先知若納之靈徵、更無他徵可授。蓋正如若納居巨魚腹中者三晝夜、人子亦將三晝夜居於地腹。審判之時、尼尼衛人必將起而定斯代之罪；蓋彼等猶因若納之訓、而起悔悟；顧在斯有大於若納者焉。審判之時、南國之后亦將起而定斯代之罪；蓋彼不遠千里而來、以聆所羅門之哲言；顧在斯有大於所羅門者焉。

猶太人所望者靈驗也希臘人所求者智慧也；

維時民眾紛集、擁擠不堪、致相蹂踐、耶穌開言、先訓其徒曰：『毋染法利塞之酵、虛偽是也。

耶穌應曰：『噫！乏信乖戾之世代乎！予之偕爾容爾、將至何時？且引爾子來。』

眾曰：『汝有何靈徵、使我見而信之乎？汝亦何所務乎？

處此淫邪之世、而以吾及吾道為恥者、人子佩聖父榮光、偕聖天神降臨之日、亦必以其人為可恥也。』

而猶太人質詢之曰：『爾之為此、亦能示我以靈徵否？』

如望見法利塞及撒杜責之徒、亦群來受洗、訓之曰：『蝮種、誰警爾以避將臨之怒耶？

時與耶穌偕行者極眾、耶穌顧謂之曰：『人來從予、而不甘舍其父母妻子昆弟姊妹、乃至其生命者、不得為吾徒。

故自有世以來、眾先知所流之血、咸將歸於斯代。」

爾等頑固強項、何曾心領割禮、而信奉教義。居常拂逆聖神、與爾列祖行同一轍。先知孰不為爾祖所凌辱乎？先知豫報聖者之來而爾祖殺之；今聖者已至、而爾曹又鬻而殺之矣！

爾父非他、魔鬼是已！爾父之志、爾則承之。彼自始即為殺人之元兇、未曾須臾立足於真理之中、以彼心中不存真理故。惟誑語乃出其本性；彼為誑者、亦為誑者父。

法利塞撒杜責輩來試耶穌、求其自天顯示靈徵。耶穌對曰：『暮有紅霞、爾曰必晴；朝見陰紫、爾曰必雨。爾何察於天象、而昧於時義耶？以邪惡不淑之世而求靈徵、除若納之靈徵外、更無靈徵可賜。』遂離之去。

是故吾遣先知哲人經師於爾、爾或刃之釘之、或鞭之於會堂、逐之於諸邑、庶幾凡世上所流義血、自義者亞伯之血、以至殿臺間被殺者巴辣基子襍加理之血、皆歸於爾。吾誠告爾、凡此諸端、咸將歸責於斯代矣。
