And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous— to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

And he will prepare the way for the Lord. He will have the same spirit and power that Elijah had. He will bring peace between parents and their children. He will teach people who don’t obey to be wise and do what is right. In this way, he will prepare a people who are ready for the Lord.”

倘爾能心領神會、彼即當臨之伊理藹也。

終我之身、聖德是務。

毋效乃父。頑梗成性。懷主不篤。厥心不正。

曰：『然則爾為伊理藹乎？』曰：『非也。』曰：『子殆先知乎？』曰：『否。』曰：『爾究為誰、請明以見告、俾吾儕有以復命。』如望對曰：『予即先知意灑雅所言：「野中呼者之聲、告眾修直主道」者是。』使者為法利塞黨人、爰又問曰：『爾既非基督、又非伊理藹、亦非先知、則胡為授洗耶？』如望答曰：『予惟以水授洗、第有先我而成、後我而至者、其人立於爾曹之中、而爾曹不之識、吾雖為之釋履帶、亦非所稱也。』此事之經過、乃在約但河外之伯大尼如望授洗處。翌日、如望見耶穌來就。乃曰：『此除免世罪、天主之羔羊也！予嘗云後我而至、先我而成者、即斯人矣！

予非基督、乃奉使為其前驅者耳。此乃予所夙言、爾曹當可為予作證。

耶穌對曰：『依理藹固須先至、復興萬事；第予語爾、依理藹實已蒞臨、而人莫之識、且任意處之。人子之將罹橫逆、亦復如是。』

時見王位數席、居其位者、受審判之權；又見諸為耶穌妙證、天主聖道、而致命者之靈魂、及生前未拜獸及厥像、且未受其印誌於顙或手者之靈魂。若輩至此復活而與基督乘權千載；

嗣問耶穌曰：『經生謂伊理靄必需先臨何也？』答曰：『伊理靄固需先來振興萬事、然經不亦言人子應如何備嘗苦辱乎？然予語汝、伊理靄實已蒞至、而世人任意待之、適如經之所載也。』

恆謝聖父、使吾人堪與諸聖共承光明之洪基、

人能畏眞宰。妙慧即在斯。聖誡宜篤行。能行始有知。可頌惟雅瑋。流芳無窮已。

既知天地萬物終歸消滅、則爾等應如何孳孳為善、翼翼事主、以速主日之臨、蓋正惟諸天焚化、物質消溶、於是吾人依據天主恩諾所盼望之新天新地、正義之所寓者、乃得而實現也。夫我良朋、既懷此殷望、則宜發憤為善、修身砥行、務使無瑕無玷俾可安心見主。

眾出受洗、如望謂之曰：『蝮類！誰警爾曹以避將臨之怒耶？宜結美果、用副悛悔之心。莫道有亞伯漢為我大父！蓋吾語爾、天主固能化此頑石為亞伯漢之後裔也。今斧斤已加樹根矣、凡不結嘉實之樹、悉將伐而付諸一炬。』眾問曰：『然則如之何而可？』對曰：『有二衣者、當與無衣者共之；有食者亦然。』稅吏至、欲受洗、曰：『夫子、吾當何為？』曰『無索分外。』軍士亦問曰：『吾儕如何？』曰：『毋凌人！毋誣人！安於餉。』

而爾等則為蒙選之族、赫赫司祭、雍雍神國實天主之眷屬也。天主既召爾等出於黑暗入於靈光、爾等可不表彰大德乎。

對曰：「不願。」既而悔之、乃往。諭次子亦往、次子曰：「大人、我往。」然竟未往也。二者孰孝？』對曰：『長子。』耶穌曰：『吾實語爾、稅吏娼妓、將先爾曹入天主國。蓋如望以義路開導於爾、爾不之信；而稅吏娼妓、則信之矣。爾見其事。猶未能悔悟而起信也。

人苟能滌垢蕩瑕、澡身浴德、則必得成為高尚之器、既聖且潔、必蒙其主大用、以成善工。

將引義塞子孫群歸其所天之主、

予既見之、爰證其為天主之聖子。』

如望見法利塞及撒杜責之徒、亦群來受洗、訓之曰：『蝮種、誰警爾以避將臨之怒耶？務宜進而結實、以副悔悟之心。毋思吾輩有亞伯漢為我祖先；蓋吾語爾、天主全能、即欲化此頑石為亞伯漢之子孫、亦易如反掌耳。方今斧斤已加於樹根、凡不結嘉實之樹、必伐而投諸火中。吾惟以水洗爾、用啟悔悟；然有後我者、威力遠超我上、吾雖為之執履、亦非所宜稱；彼將洗爾於聖神與靈火之中。厥手持箕、簸汰場禾、納麥於倉、而焚芻藁於不熄之火』。

而對於吾人預定為榮貴之器、沛加恩澤、以揚其無窮之榮、

卓哉身分。若輩之生。非緣血氣。惟自天主。無與人意。

如望嘗諫王曰：『爾納此婦、義所不容。』

因即發人邀汝；汝來甚善、今吾儕悉在上主前、顧聞主所諭汝者。』

主已垂聽兮。謙者之音。必賜慰藉兮。堅固其心。

寧不知為不義者必不得承天主之國乎？幸毋自欺！凡行淫亂、拜偶像、犯奸惡、為孌童、親男色、作盜賊、貪污、沉湎、謗人、勒索之徒、未有能承受天主之國者也。爾中以前亦有屬此類者、今則已賴吾主耶穌基督之名及天主聖神之恩、而洗滌夙穢且受聖而復義矣。

如望身披駝毛、腰束革帶、以蝗蟲野蜜為食。
