以伊理藹之風度神力為主前驅、必使為父者之心歸向兒女、而頑強之子服膺長者之智、為主作育心悅誠服之新民。』

And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous— to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

And he will prepare the way for the Lord. He will have the same spirit and power that Elijah had. He will bring peace between parents and their children. He will teach people who don’t obey to be wise and do what is right. In this way, he will prepare a people who are ready for the Lord.”

And it is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers back to their children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Look, I am going to send you the prophet Elijah before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes.And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with a curse.”

And if you’re willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who is to come.

And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,

Then they would not be like their ancestors, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not loyal and whose spirit was not faithful to God.

“ What then?” they asked him.“ Are you Elijah?”“ I am not,” he said.“ Are you the Prophet?”“ No,” he answered.“ Who are you, then?” they asked.“ We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself?”He said,“ I am a voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord— just as Isaiah the prophet said.”Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.So they asked him,“ Why then do you baptize if you aren’t the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet?”“ I baptize with water,” John answered them.“ Someone stands among you, but you don’t know him.He is the one coming after me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.”All this happened in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,“ Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!This is the one I told you about:‘ After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.’

You yourselves can testify that I said,‘ I am not the Messiah, but I’ve been sent ahead of him.’

“ Elijah is coming and will restore everything,” he replied.“ But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

Then I saw thrones, and people seated on them who were given authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and who had not accepted the mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

Then they asked him,“ Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”“ Elijah does come first and restores all things,” he replied.“ Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as it is written about him.”

LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep this desire forever in the thoughts of the hearts of your people, and confirm their hearts toward you.

giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his instructions have good insight. His praise endures forever.

Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, it is clear what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godlinessas you wait for the day of God and hasten its coming. Because of that day, the heavens will be dissolved with fire and the elements will melt with heat.But based on his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.Therefore, dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found without spot or blemish in his sight, at peace.

Those who are confused will gain understanding, and those who grumble will accept instruction.

He then said to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him,“ Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance. And don’t start saying to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.The ax is already at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”“ What then should we do?” the crowds were asking him.He replied to them,“ The one who has two shirts must share with someone who has none, and the one who has food must do the same.”Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they asked him,“ Teacher, what should we do?”He told them,“ Don’t collect any more than what you have been authorized.”Some soldiers also questioned him,“ What should we do?” He said to them,“ Don’t take money from anyone by force or false accusation, and be satisfied with your wages.”

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Therefore, Israel, that is what I will do to you, and since I will do that to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God!

“ He answered,‘ I don’t want to,’ but later he changed his mind and went.Then the man went to the other and said the same thing.‘ I will, sir,’ he answered, but he didn’t go.Which of the two did his father’s will?” They said,“ The first.” Jesus said to them,“ Truly I tell you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.

Therefore, this is what the LORD says: You will not get up from your sickbed; you will certainly die.’” Then Elijah left.The messengers returned to the king, who asked them,“ Why have you come back?”They replied,“ A man came to meet us and said,‘ Go back to the king who sent you and declare to him,“ This is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you’re sending these men to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore, you will not get up from your sickbed; you will certainly die.”’”

Ahab said to Elijah,“ So, my enemy, you’ve found me, have you?” He replied,“ I have found you because you devoted yourself to do what is evil in the LORD’s sight.

So if anyone purifies himself from anything dishonorable, he will be a special instrument, set apart, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.

I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

Now Elijah the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers, said to Ahab,“ As the LORD God of Israel lives, in whose presence I stand, there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command!”

Then Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced over how God had prepared the people, for it had come about suddenly.

When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them,“ Brood of vipers! And what if he did this to make known the riches of his glory on objects of mercy that he prepared beforehand for glory—

who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.

since John had been telling him,“ It’s not lawful for you to have her.”

So I immediately sent for you, and it was good of you to come. So now we are all in the presence of God to hear everything you have been commanded by the Lord.”

LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble; you will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully,

Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or males who have sex with males,no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

He replied,“ I have not ruined Israel, but you and your father’s family have, because you have abandoned the LORD’s commands and followed the Baals.

Now John had a camel-hair garment with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.

Then Elijah said to King Ahaziah,“ This is what the LORD says:‘ Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron— is it because there is no God in Israel for you to inquire of his will?— you will not get up from your sickbed; you will certainly die.’”

Samuel said,“ Gather all Israel at Mizpah, and I will pray to the LORD on your behalf.”
