或是受膏的祭司犯了罪，使百姓陷在罪裏，他就當為自己所犯的罪，把沒有殘疾的公牛犢獻給耶和華為贖罪祭。他要把公牛牽到會幕的門口，在耶和華面前按手在牛的頭上，把牛宰於耶和華面前。受膏的祭司要取些公牛的血，帶到會幕那裏。祭司要把手指蘸在血中，在耶和華面前對着聖所的幔子彈血七次，又要把一些血抹在會幕內，耶和華面前香壇的四個翹角上，再把公牛其餘的血全倒在會幕門口燔祭壇的底座上；又要取出這頭贖罪祭公牛所有的脂肪，就是包着內臟的脂肪和內臟上所有的脂肪，兩個腎和腎上的脂肪，即靠近腎兩旁的脂肪，以及肝上的網油，連同腎一起取下，正如從平安祭的牛身上所取的，祭司要把這些燒在燔祭壇上。但公牛的皮和所有的肉，以及頭、腿、內臟、糞，就是全公牛，要搬到營外清潔的地方倒灰之處，放在柴上用火焚燒。「以色列全會眾若犯了錯，在任何事上犯了一條耶和華所吩咐的禁令，而有了罪，會眾看不出這隱藏的事；他們一知道犯了罪，就要獻一頭公牛犢為贖罪祭，牽牠到會幕前。會眾的長老要在耶和華面前按手在公牛的頭上，把牛宰於耶和華面前。受膏的祭司要取些公牛的血，帶到會幕那裏。祭司要用手指蘸一些血，在耶和華面前對着幔子彈七次，又要把一些血抹在會幕內，耶和華面前壇的四個翹角上，再把其餘的血全倒在會幕門口燔祭壇的底座上。他要取出公牛所有的脂肪，燒在壇上。他要處理這牛，正如處理那頭贖罪祭的公牛一樣，他要如此去做。祭司要為他們贖罪，他們就蒙赦免。他要把牛搬到營外燒了，像燒前一頭公牛一樣；這是會眾的贖罪祭。

看哪，這祭牲的血沒有拿到聖所裏去！你們應當照我所吩咐的，在聖所裏吃這祭肉。」

因為牲畜的血被大祭司帶入至聖所作贖罪祭，牲畜的體卻在營外燒掉。

作贖罪祭的公牛和作贖罪祭的公山羊的血被帶入聖所贖罪之後，就要把這牛羊搬到營外，皮、肉、糞都用火焚燒。焚燒的人要洗衣服，用水洗身，然後才可以回到營裏。」

但現在基督已經來到，作了已實現的美事的大祭司，經過那更大更全備的帳幕，不是人手所造，也不是屬於這世界的；他不用山羊和牛犢的血，而是用自己的血，只一次進入至聖所就獲得了永遠的贖罪。
