“‘ If your brother has become poor, and his hand can’t support himself among you, then you shall uphold him. He shall live with you like an alien and a temporary resident.

“‘ If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you.

“‘ Suppose any of your own people become poor. And suppose they can’t take care of themselves. Then help them just as you would help an outsider or a stranger. In that way, the poor can continue to live among you.

“ If your brother becomes poor and cannot maintain himself with you, you shall support him as though he were a stranger and a sojourner, and he shall live with you.

“ If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and cannot support himself, support him as you would a foreigner or a temporary resident and allow him to live with you.

“ If your brother becomes destitute and cannot sustain himself among you, you are to support him as an alien or temporary resident, so that he can continue to live among you.

‘ Now in case a countryman of yours becomes poor and his means among you falter, then you are to sustain him, like a stranger or a resident, so that he may live with you.

‘ If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you.

And if thy brother be waxed poor, and his hand fail with thee; then thou shalt uphold him: as a stranger and a sojourner shall he live with thee.

If a poor man, one of your brothers, is with you within any of your gates in your land which Yahweh your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother;but you shall surely open your hand to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, which he lacks.

As any of the disciples had plenty, each determined to send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea;

He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

Blessed is he who considers the poor. Yahweh will deliver him in the day of evil.

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back; and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.

All day long he deals graciously, and lends. His offspring is blessed.

He has dispersed, he has given to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor.

It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends. He will maintain his cause in judgment.

Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?But you have dishonored the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts?

“ You shall not oppress an alien, for you know the heart of an alien, since you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him.

Therefore“ If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates.In his day you shall give him his wages, neither shall the sun go down on it; for he is poor and sets his heart on it; lest he cry against you to Yahweh, and it be sin to you.

He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner in giving him food and clothing.Therefore love the foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

It is indeed unnecessary for me to write to you concerning the service to the saints,

The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native- born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you lived as foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.

Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for in doing so, some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

“‘ If your brother becomes poor, and sells some of his possessions, then his kinsman who is next to him shall come, and redeem that which his brother has sold.

for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in.

The poor person is shunned even by his own neighbor, but the rich person has many friends.He who despises his neighbor sins, but he who has pity on the poor is blessed.

For this service of giving that you perform not only makes up for lack among the saints, but abounds also through much giving of thanks to God,seeing that through the proof given by this service, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the Good News of Christ and for the generosity of your contribution to them and to all,while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, yearn for you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.Now thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift!

For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want to, you can do them good; but you will not always have me.

They only asked us to remember the poor— which very thing I was also zealous to do.
