Rejoice and be glad, Daughter Edom, you who live in the land of Uz. But to you also the cup will be passed; you will be drunk and stripped naked.

So rejoice and be glad, Daughter Edom, you resident of the land of Uz! Yet the cup will pass to you as well; you will get drunk and expose yourself.

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.

“ Behold, I come like a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his clothes, so that he doesn’t walk naked, and they see his shame.”

Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Edom, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity, and his anger raged continually, and he kept his wrath forever;

Its smoke will go up forever. From generation to generation, it will lie waste. No one will pass through it forever and ever.But the pelican and the porcupine will possess it. The owl and the raven will dwell in it. He will stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plumb line of emptiness.They shall call its nobles to the kingdom, but none shall be there; and all its princes shall be nothing.Thorns will come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in its fortresses; and it will be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches.The wild animals of the desert will meet with the wolves, and the wild goat will cry to his fellow. Selah.Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon;who perished at Endor, who became as dung for the earth.Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,who said,“ Let’s take possession of God’s pasture lands.”

I have heard it.”The Lord Yahweh says:“ When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate.As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it was desolate, so I will do to you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.’”

The king of Sheshach will drink after them.“ You shall tell them,‘ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says:“ Drink, and be drunk, vomit, fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.”’It shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you shall tell them,‘ Yahweh of Armies says:“ You shall surely drink.For, behold, I begin to work evil at the city which is called by my name; and should you be utterly unpunished? You will not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth, says Yahweh of Armies.”’

“ I have loved you,” says Yahweh. Yet you say,“ How have you loved us?”“ Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?” says Yahweh,“ Yet I loved Jacob;but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.”Whereas Edom says,“ We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places;” Yahweh of Armies says,“ They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them‘ The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.”
